1. clear symptom of a spineless Republic Banana
Jerome   (11.22.14)
Israelis give up to pressure in no time, willing to give up their capital city. there is no other nation that will be willing to give up their capital. this is a clear symptom of a spineless Republic Banana
2. What a huge mistake that would be
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (11.22.14)
Never again should Jerusalem be divided. The mistake was made in 1967. At that time Israel should have done what every other country did with enemy citizens and combatants. Israel should have expelled them. My response to this article is make up for lost time. Expel any Arab who does not opt to be a full citizen of Israel. A citizen who will join the army or do national service and who want to be a full participant in Israeli society.
3. Panic
Shalom ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.22.14)
In her panic, the writer of this article did not have time to draw the conclusion from her proposal. The fenced-off Arabs will copy the Arabs of Gaza and start bombarding the Jewish areas of with mortar shells, which Iron Dome cannot stop. We are in paradise compared with the hell that she proposes.
4. Rewarding terror counterproductive !!!
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (11.22.14)
5. ariella misses the point big time
john   (11.22.14)
arabs want you ariella out of jerusalem, all of it, out of tel aviv, haifa etc. As zohar says, go back to poland, or usa and then there will be peace between arabs and jews when they are separated by 5000 miles and having to do with each other. Then syria and turkey can rule over palestine. The axe and cleaver attack on rabbis and congregants was also meant for you and tsipi livni. They want to dismember and disfigure you and all israels. So as feiglin says, either fight for all your cities, or get out of israel. And tall fences don't work with arabs and your conclusion is pathetic and embarrassing. The gaza withdrawal was not the best solution. Ask 1 million southerners. The philadelphi route should have been drowned with a canal. You are like livni, weak and blind- you won't face facts. You should ask ban ki moon for a new land 10,000 miles from arabs, get compensation and start over. Whatever israel does, arabs will be killing israelis, you included, tall fences won't change a damn thing. Either fight for your land, every inch of it, or move back to poland.
6. Religious violence
Claire ,   Boulogne, France   (11.22.14)
Have we all forgotten February 1994, when Baruch Goldstein gunned down & killed 29 moslem worshipers in the Ibrahimi mosque in Hebron? Yes, Jerusalem must be divided to avoid unending killing of both moslems and jews.
7. Complete Israeli sovereignty for Judea/Samaria NOW!
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.22.14)
Hoffman belongs to the suicide left, which is dead wrong about every major issue from Oslo to Disengagement to Golan to Arafat to Jerusalem to...everything. The real solutions is complete Israeli sovereignty for all of Judea and Samaria NOW!
8. Jerusalem must be divided, now
leonard ,   Vianen Netherlands   (11.22.14)
Unbelieveable Are you Jewish ???. You squanders what JHWH has give to his friend Abraham. Israel is His land and His people. Israel will exist forever with Jerusalem as its capital. Read in Ezekiel how the enemies the left and haters of Israel will perish !! Leo v Meeteren Netherlands
9. Allowing East Jreusalem as Palestine capital a grave error
Alan ,   Canada   (11.22.14)
The wish of Palestinian to get their claim on Jerusalem recognized is mainly intended to get that the international community to falsely accept the idea of a non existent historical right on the city & by extension, on Israel as a whole in future demands. It would thus be a very serious error to accept a division of Jerusalem not even intended to bring a temporary peace. For those interested in the legal & historical proof of the unequivocal standing of Jerusalem as capital of Jews, please listen to this Canadian international lawyer , Jacques Gauthier. in this video: The Jewish Claim to Jerusalem: The Case Under International Law http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH5pD3yVH64 As long as powerful rogue states like Iran & barbaric extremist muslim groups promise Palestinians the eradication of Israel, there is no concession that Israel can make which will change the mind state of the majority of Palestinians.
10. Jerusalem
J. Sullivan ,   Magic Kingdom, usa   (11.22.14)
Seems I remember that prior to 1967 Jerusalem was divided. See the apartment buildings in "West Jerusalem" with 2 meter thick concrete roofs built prior to 1967? Guess why this unique building construction was needed? Been there, tried it, didn't work!
11. The fatal mistake of Israel
Alen ,   france   (11.22.14)
The fatal mistake of Israel was signing Oslo agreement, in which Israel recognised Palestine and palestininan authority to have ministires, and army, and leaving gaza strip which allowed Hamas, and Fatah to bring weapons thru the border. the only solution for Israel to have some balls and get back Westbank and gaza even with loosing 1000 soldiers in the worst case is better than loosing all the land of Israel which is going to destruction and its land is shrinking day after day.
12. what if we had a religious war in Jaffa
zionist forever   (11.22.14)
Would the author recommend we adopt the border of the UN General Assembly Resolution 181 from 1947 which said Jaffa was supposed to be part of the arab state. We captured Jaffa in war same as we did East Jerusalem it wasn't given so if there was a religious war there should we say the idea of a united Tel Aviv / Jaffa is unrealistic so we should divide Tel Aviv to bring calm? Dividing Jerusalem is unacceptable and when there is terror you fight it not surrender because they will use that tactic time & time again if it works once.
13. Writer partly right.....
Shep ,   Memphis, TN - USA   (11.22.14)
There is no reference to what happens the day after the "Wall" goes up and separates the old city. There is no reference to what the Palestinians are going to have to give up in return for Israel taking this risk. There is no mention as to how to deal with the inevitable security issues that will arise when the Palestinians are left on their own on the "other side". There is no mention of Palestinian workers in Israel. This article is a total disaster as far an ideal that half baked and shot from the hip. The only thing he got right was that the Israelis need to be separated from the "bad, rioting" Palestinians - as many of them are good people just working Joes like everyone else. Here is how it should work: Jail the rioters, strip th em of their citizenship and benefits, and ship them to Gaza or Ramallah. As for terrorists? Kill them on the spot, strip their families of thier citizenship/benefits and send them to Gaza or the West Bank. No need to demolish their homes under my plan. maybe that will satisfy the Human Rights Watch.
14. idea
Eric Apoe ,   Seattle WA USA   (11.22.14)
Such a Great IDEA …beautiful and then while you are at it just give them all of it and why not the country as well….and heck …then just get on that little train …the Helen Thomas Express …and go on back to Poland….man, you DON"T GET IT …..screw your head back on and open your mind up THE MYTH OF ISLAMIC TOLERANCE
15. Dangerous, idiotic proposal
Imperator ,   USA/Israel   (11.22.14)
This incredible op-ed is an insult to the memory of all our brave men and women who fought and gave their lives for our Yerushalaim, i.e., all of it. Shame on her, shame on those that agree with her.
16. divided jerusalem
andy beider ,   michigan, usa   (11.22.14)
As much as I dislike the thought, I dislike the thought of more of our people being killed worse. So push them out of east Jerusalem the way the USA pushed the native Americans out onto reservations in either transjordan, Lebanon, Syria, or Egypt. Let them come to visit. Pay them for their property and send them packing. This will stop the violence cause they won't be there. The world did it us for thousands of years. Let Spain take them. Let Africa take them or quatar or Iran if it's so rich. They seem to want friends. Good give them a few million more friends to worship the ayatollahs. See how they like it there. But you will have peace because the trouble makers will be gone for good.
17. The residents of Jerusalem should say what they want.
Michael ,   California, USA   (11.22.14)
Hers is a valid proposal which can create coexistence across a wall or a border. When there are ethnic groups which don't want to live together, they should be separated and time be given for them to learn how to avoid the separation some day. Jerusalem in the past expanded many times as its tax base shrank because population segments could not afford paying the city taxes. Returning Jerusalem to its former parts and making them independent from the wasteful municipality would be a natural thing to do. I think it will be best to let the residents of Jerusalem vote on reasonable plans for the city's future.
18. It's only been one sided.
" " ,   Jerusalem   (11.22.14)
Would the Palestinians like it if the Jews were called to terrorize them, throw molotov cocktails, rocks at their cars, run over them with their cars? The Jews have rightfully shown themselves to have managerial custodianship of Jerusalem. East Jerusalem is reserved and at best will be a district were law would apply to anyone and would be an example for Israel and "Palestina". Considerations for Palestinians and Israelis would apply under Israeli sovereignty.
19. wait a minute please
Charles   (11.22.14)
So I ask the writer - any time we feel we are being attacked ny tpalestinians & we feel that it is impossible to control, we should think of retreat & compromise? is that it? wow! maybe we should give up the jewish state altogether so the world will no longer hate jews?? hmm. where have we heard this before???
20. Substance or marginal things ?
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (11.22.14)
The majority of the Arabs, and the majority of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip , and all the Arab citizens of Israel already accept Israel's existence and its right for survival with security . There's no problem here . There's a wise saying which goes : " Eyes they have , but they see not ... " . I can safely and boldly say there's absolutely no hatred toward Jews simply because they are Jews . No ... Not at all . The crux of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not this arab neighborhood or that arab corner of Jerusalem but rather it is three basic and substantial issues : Palestinian statehood , UNRWA refugees , and Jerusalem as a unique and holy city for three religions . If these three basic issues get solved as fairly as possible then there would be no more reasons left for the continuation of hostility between Palestinians and Israelis . When Egypt finally and openly accepted Israel's right to exist and formally recognized its legitimacy Israel magnanimously agreed to give Sinai back to Egypt under special conditions . So , what stops Israel from taking similar steps toward the Palestinians especially after the PLO finally recognized Israel's legitimacy under the Oslo Accords ? If Palestinian right to statehood and the repatriation of UNRWA refugees ( at least part of them ) are achieved the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would definitely come to an end . As for the city of Jerusalem some kind of reasonable solution could be made based on mutual concessions . For instance there could be an Israeli-Jewish administrative council ( something like a municipality ) for the Israeli side and a similar one of Christian-Moslem Palestinians for the Arab side while having one higher , supreme joint council of Palestinian arabs and Jewish Israelis as the ultimate administrative-political authority based on a fair quota ... Compromise and reconciliation should bring an end to this conflict . And power sharing in Jerusalem should be the final solution acceptable to both sides .
21. Worse tasting fruit is the diseased...
Gideon Reed ,   USA   (11.22.14)
...and elementally stupid thought that there can ever be any trust at any level with the murderous bacteria that have infested the "partners for peace" and the associated "land for peace" and self deluding"two states living side by side in safety and mutual respect". Shiva for Oslo is long over and no one visits it's untended grave. Has anyone, anywhere, ever observed any sign or example of the so called Palestinians making any positive grsture towards civility and rationality? Maybe it is time to consider population transfer of an increasing and aggressive hostile entity out of Israel. Where? Frankly Scarlet or rather Areila, etc
22. Agreed
Brad ,   USA   (11.23.14)
Divide the Muslims out of Jerusalem and into their Muslim countries. Jerusalem is the Capitol of the nation of Israel. That's it.
23. Ariel Sharon o.h.
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (11.23.14)
PM Ariel Sharon removed every Jew from Gaza, as the first stage of a PA state that would eventually include the West Bank. Look where Gaza went? Israel is 20% Arabs, so why should the PA state be judenrein? Why should Jews be ethnically cleansed from the heartland of Biblical Israel? There can be Arabs in Israel and there can be Jews in the PA. Jerusalem can have two levels of government, borough govt for East and West Jerusalem and one city-wide council plus IDF security. From 1948 to 1967 Jerusalem was divided and it was a disaster.
24. Arab neighborhoods anyway lost to Jews
Wade ,   NYC USA   (11.24.14)
No sane Jew would knowingly wander into any of those Arab neighborhoods, so good riddance to them. The malls and the hospitals will get a lot less crowded.
25. #24. Should the U.S. cede all unsafe cities?
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.25.14)
Should the U.S. cede all American cities with high crime rates? Aren't you embarrassed to post such idiocy?
26. If Jerusalem falls so will the West
SumThingsUdontGvAway ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.01.14)
Had Israel's leaders years ago seen fit to settle thousands of Jews in the historic part of the city while upgrading the Arab citizens living there this problem would be far behind us , there were no visionaries then and few now , tragically those leaders had little interest in the religious and historic aspects of Zionism and today when more and more religious leaders and the population in general do so much damage has been done it may be irreversible only a strong truly Zionist leader can reverse the situation and settle massively what is left with Jews otherwise not only will Jews lose this jewel but the Western World as the city becomes totally Islamasised and Jews will only be welcome as "guests" in the city they made famous to the world. Not to mention wetting the appetite for the next step Europe and the West in general , Islam does not respect those who do not respect themselves
