1. IDF non-kosher food ... discriminatary ?
Roland ,   london England   (11.26.14)
What a state for the Jewish State.
2. Well done! But hey, is it enough?
Ariel ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (11.26.14)
B"H - "Our" Yaacov Biblow's in the news! My take? Even if he won and his case changed military regulations, he shouldn't be in there in the first place, swearing allegiance to the State, instead of Hashem
3. Doesn't the army have anything more important to focus on -
randi Honig ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.14)
all this does is create a divide in the soldiers. the army wants to draft haredim but cannot stomach beards??? where is their brain?
4. IDF targets hareidi beards
Shulamith ,   Israel   (11.26.14)
It is all ridiculous IDF wants to draft hareidim there are special conditions for those serving In Nahal Hareidi etc Why do they want to get religious soldiers into the military and then try to get them to become less and less religions obviously beards and religious Jews specialy Hareidim go together - if they want the one they have to take the other too - including Kashrut, not being forced to listen to women singing, male only facilities, officers etc. If not, then leave them in the Kollel.
5. there are religious hating Jewish officers in IDF
Jake ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.14)
I have experienced first hand, Jewish secular officers who did what ever they could to make life miserable for religious enlistees. Now the IDF wants more religious boys, they have to have more consideration for their beliefs.

AC   (11.26.14)
IDF "rabbis" are not haredi and have no problem shaving. Haredim, on the other hand, will never shave. In the long this new decree will just strengthen the resolve of haredim not to step foot in a military who is to cut the beard/peyot together with their Judaism
7. cammander should be demoted & pay scale lowered

8. To David Nowlin (FB): HALF their beards
Jake   (11.26.14)
The Biblical text (2 Samuel 10:4) reads: "So Hanun seized David's envoys, shaved off half of each man's beard, cut off their garments at the buttocks, and sent them away." Hanun shaved off one half of their beards and left the other half remaining. Obviously this was done to humiliate David's ambassadors and make them appear ridiculous. This is not an argument for the intrinsic merits of having a beard. You either have a beard or not; you don't shave off half of it unless you want to look very silly indeed.
9. IDF changes facial hair regulations for religious troops

Randi at #3. Here's thought.... Its not practical to have facial hair when you're a soldier. Imagine if the soldier was set on fire. Imagine the deep burns on his face caused by having a beard. Have you ever worked in a burn unit? I have. Have you ever seen a melted face? Do you know how painful the burn itself, subsequent scarring and multiple surgeries are?
10. Perhaps the Haredim should consider the resurrected Yeshua
Rivkah   (11.27.14)
HaMashiach. It is true he had a beard while on the earth before His crucifixion. But He resurrected clean shaven with short hair. I have seen Him and Eloah His Father. Eloah has a beard and it is long coming to a point at his chest. His hair is also long to His shoulders and it is white. But the Son of Eloah resurrected to a much younger age than when He died on the stake. He looks like ABC Evening News Anchor David Muir but much younger with similar hair but not as dark as David Muir's hair. That tells me it is all right to be clean shaven with short hair for a male to imitate the Jewish Messiah Yeshua. But it is also all right to imitate Eloah the Father Yah. The early frescos and paintings of the Son Yeshua showed him in a likeness that I saw with short hair and clean shaven and young, perhaps equivalent to the human age of 30, the age of the high Priesthood since He is a High Priest after the order of Melchisedec. I tell you this so that the religious males in the IDF will see there is an alternative appearance that is acceptable to Eloah for those who wish to imitate His Son's appearance.
11. 2 Ariel ben Yochanan: How would General Joshua have
Rivkah   (11.27.14)
conquered the lands given to Abraham the Patriarch is there was no physical army but just the Levite prayer warriors who did not take up physical arms? Israel is and was the apple of HaShem's eye since only those who are Jews in their hearts enter His Kingdom whether physical descendants of Abraham or Abraham's spiritual seed. Exodus 15:3 says Eloah is a Man of war. Often, Eloah fights His enemies with physical means not just spiritual. One's first allegiance must be to Eloah and His Messiah Son Yeshua. The lesser allegiance is to one's family and the nation. Proverbs 30:2-6 says the Creator of the Universe is Eloah and that Eloah has a Name and Eloah has a Son who has a Name if you know it. Many translations of Scriptures do not reveal that meaning of the verses but you read Hebrew so you know what I say is true.
12. Commander's priority must be to..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (11.26.14)
motivate soldiers, and certainly not demotivate them, by putting them in prison for no good reason.
13. Thank G-d for this law
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.26.14)
Another reason for Haredim not to dare enter this anti-religious filthy army.
14. Prejudice
HS ,   BROOKLYN   (11.26.14)
Medinat Yisrael = Sonai Yisrael .... Why is Anti semitism rampant in our own Land... Do you remember the picture of the snearing Nazi cutting off the Crying Chassids beard.??? have we lost our minds ?Wasnt the creation of the state to have a safe place for the Jewish People !!!!
15. #9
Josh ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.27.14)
Do you know anything about haredi people? The amount of hair on their head evens out the hair issue you have with burning. If a soldier catches fire a beard or dreadlocks are the least of his issues!
16. Hair on one's head vs. on one's face
HH ,   Jerusalem   (11.27.14)
The IDF allows male recruits to keep their ponytails to "accomodate their lifestyle and their beliefs." Any further remarks about beards is superfluous . . ..
17. #8 Jake
DAVID NOWLIN ,   USA   (11.27.14)
I think you missed my point. King David set a precedent by allowing beards. His men had beards. If not, he would have the men chastised rather than allowing them to re-grow their beards. What's good for King David is certainly good for the modern IDF.
18. #10 Rivkah - Cuckoo
History nut ,   Israel   (11.27.14)
19. 18 Look online for the fresco pictures of the resurrected
Rivkah   (11.27.14)
Jewish Messiah before about 300 A.D. (ce) and you will see a likeness to ABC Evening Newsman David Muir. How sad for you to see cuckoo in truth since the day will come when you die and learn too late the truth, that Eloah has a Name and He has a Son who has a Name. The Name of Eloah is Yahovah and its Hebrew letters are yod-he-vow-he which mean palm of the hand-window, seeing-nail-window, seeing. But to you since you are spiritually blind, that means nothing. How terrible for you to spend eternity separated from your Creator and His Son. You will be in darkness and intense heat and will be thirsty with no water to drink and you will remember always with no hope of kindness, mercy or refreshment. Sounds to me like you are the cuckoo nut. But that is your choice to be in HaSatan's camp instead of Elohim's.
20. #17, David, yes but these were ambassadors not soldiers

22. Jake and David: A beard is a hazard in hand to hand combat
Rivkah   (11.28.14)
since it is something that can be grabbed hold of just as long hair can be by the enemy combatant. There isn't much hand to hand combat in formal warfare now, but there is a lot of it in guerrilla warfare and knock out attacks and terrorism. Of course, the British soldier who did not have a beard who was beheaded on a street recently by a Muslim who did have a beard shows it doesn't take grabbing a beard to subdue someone with an ax. Anciently, men wore beards until the time of Alexander the Great whose face was waxed, setting a new style in the appearance of men, whether soldiers or ambassadors or other occupations.
23. @ AS - #6
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (11.30.14)
First off, you apparently have a reading comprehension problem, since I'm on the soldier's side and not the officer's, in this case. Second, as far as my poor secular understanding of Judaism goes, saving a life (including your own) by shaving so that you can wear a gas mask effectively comes under the heading of פיקוח נפש. Doesn't that supersede all other considerations?
24. @ Rivkah, #22
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (11.30.14)
For centuries, beards were used as protection for the throat in combat. The Sikhs have done this for millennia. You should put down your Bible and read some history texts before you make other misleading errors.
25. 24 M. Davison: How does a beard protect the throat in
Rivkah   (12.01.14)
combat? I do not mislead. You lack appreciation for Elohim and His greatest history book of all time.
