1. The Declaration of Independence is NOT part of Israeli law
Jake   (11.25.14)
This has been determined by the Knesset and Supreme Court. Therefore, an expression of Israel's Jewish and democratic character needs to be guaranteed under Israeli law, not merely mentioned in a declarative document that forms no formal part of Israel's legal code.
2. The Decline of Israel
Jim ,   Ottawa   (11.25.14)
It didn't happen because of war or conflict. It happened because the Jews lost the will to win.
3. Turkey implementing "public morality" clause in citizenship
Shep ,   Memphis, TN   (11.25.14)
Turkey may be on to something. They are adding a public morality clause to citizenship so that if a citizen acts against the state, they can lose their citizenship. Interesting.........................
4.  rivlin is likeable but he is wrong
marcel   (11.26.14)
Precisely because arabs view israel sitting illegally on the moslem trust, and also because israeli history and soverignty are denied, israel must push this law through. Otherwise, the arabs will eat israel legitimacy alive.
5. the president is supposed to kiss babies
zionist forever   (11.25.14)
The appointed president is supposed to be a ceremonial figure not an MK and his job is to keep his mouth shut on government policy making and just kiss babies and meet foreign dignitaries but now the man is openly criticising a bill the elected government is trying to pass. Peres was bad enough with his getting overly political but Rivlin is crossing the line here, if he wants to be politically active he should quit the presidency become an MK again.
6. WHAT IS THE POINT OF RIVLIN ?
tTEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED OBVIOUS   (11.25.14)
Or ,for that matter ,the President 's office which is largely ceremonial, cosmetic and theoretical .Israel already has a Prime Minister and that should be enough .
7. Another Peres
Sidney ,   USA   (11.25.14)
Under the Israeli system presidents are not supposed to be involved in politics. He should resign and become a Knesset member.
8. Israel a country so brilliant smart and small
Yardena   (11.26.14)
chooses 2 idiots as presidents? absurd
9. He must follow his job description
Jerom   (11.26.14)
Doesn't matter if it have a left or right leaning, The President doesn't get involved in political matters, one side or another. He must follow his job description. Or this position should be eliminated
10. rivlin
Nisan neitslog ,   usa   (11.26.14)
Bibi would do well to listen to Rivlin. Bibi should read "Animal Farm"
11. Another Peres
Isaac Shladovsky ,   East Windsor, NJ   (11.26.14)
If Israel only had the good fortune to have many more of the likes of Peres and Rivlin and less of the likes of Sidney and his ilk and their ignorant and hateful e-mails.
12. Rivlin is a complete ignoramus
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.26.14)
Sometimes I wonder -- given Peres -- that being an idiot is part of the job description. Rivlin needs to read Israel's Declaration of Independence. You know, the part where it says that the State of Israel is the HOMELAND of the JEWISH PEOPLE. Seems pretty clear to me. It is possible to have a highly personal identity and be a democracy. England has an official religion -- Church of England. England is a democracy (well, at least until the Moslems finish taking over the country). Italy is officially Roman Catholic, as is Switzerland, Monaco and Austria. Germany is semi-officially a Christian state. No shortage of Moslem states throughout the world, although they don't count because there isn't a single democracy among them. There is nothing wrong with being both the Jewish State and a democracy. Rivlin needs an education. If anything, the laws favor Arabs -- Christian and Moslem. They barely pay the kind of taxes that Jewish citizens and Druze citizens do. Hardly democratic -- if Rivlin wants a true democracy, then why don't Arabs shoulder the burden of national service or military service, and why do they get a free pass on deciding who may and who may not live in their villages; and why do they get a free pass on municipal taxes?
13. He was not sitting a week on his chair
m   (11.26.14)
When he started spouting against everything and anything. There were presidents with humility like Navon, Shazar, Herzog, where are they?
14. he must shut up or leave. very simple.
ralph   (11.26.14)
15. Seperate state from religion
Miriam   (11.26.14)
No to religious coercion. Israel is and always will be a democracy. We do not live according to religious law as religion is a belief that cannot be forced on non believers, just as they are free to be religious we are also free not to be religious. The more laws they introduce to force religion on people, the more people will rebel against it.
16. rivlin slams nationality law
claus ,   jerusalem   (11.26.14)
First of all thumbs up for Ruby. he develops into a president of "all" israelis. However ,as a non-jew or goy living, serving and working here for more than 36 years,i am getting worried . The latest politically motivated attempts to curb the minority rights in israel are reminiscent of what german pastor Martin niemoeller formulated as follows: First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. i would say: first they came for the muslim minority and i did not speak out because i am not a muslim... then they came for ...???? etc. beware of the beginnings
17. Jewish nation state
Avraham ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.14)
It seems that many do not understand the real meaning and importance of PM Netanyiahu's proposal. Jews must be recognized as a nation, not only belonging to the religion. Only as a nation, they have a right to have their national state. The question is: do the Jews in Israel and elswhere want it or not?
18. you forgot claus Israel is HOme for the Jewish people
Yardena   (11.26.14)
you choose to live here for 36 years thats very nice. however, dont you ever forget Israel is the Homeland for Jewish people created by Jews for Jews your quote comes from somewhere that refers to first they came for the christians then jews bla bla bla ref to muslims nothing to do with rivlin's stupid stubbornness
19. This idiot of a President seems hellbent on out-Peresing
(11.26.14)
Szymon himself! Just when we thought it couldn't get worse than the Eternal One.... og Gee!!! I guess he fancies himself a darling of the chattering Euro/Anglo Dhimmis too.
20. Rivlin
Brod ,   USA   (11.26.14)
The Ceremonial President should keep out of politics. In other countries, they are not involved in politics or governance of the country. It is time for Rivlin to shut his mouth that strengthens anti-Israel elements.
21. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.26.14)
It cannot be done. You cannot separate Eretz Israel and Am Israel. The two are inextricably linked. You can be as observant or non-observant as you like. Few people, if any, really care. And if you don't know that Judaism is not so much a religion as it is a way of life, then you probably aren't worth educating.
22. "What is the point of the"
TIRED BONES ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.26.14)
Presidency??? A Total waste of HARD earned Taxpayer money. Can anyone share with me its possible benefits! Doesn't Israel have enough Ambassadors? An abused position at its best! A useless, expensive mouthpiece of some sort.
23. The greater the trouble
US citizen ,   US   (11.26.14)
the closer Israel's children should cling to each other and the One that provides. Many know greater trouble is coming and Israel should prepare but the greatest and most beneficial preparation is in drawing close, in our heart, to the One that has gathered Israel's children to the land of their fathers and not trusting, depending, or counting on or in ourselves or humans of any persuasion.
24. Lol
Joya ,   Israel   (11.26.14)
Drawing differences between democrats and not so democrats in the U.S. Is not like drawing differences between Jewish political parties in Israel... I find the President arguments very educating, even though he remind me my grandmother sayings: "everyone has talent at twenty five" ;-) just kidding! Cheers
