1. seems fair
chris (munich)   (11.30.14)
It does seem fair that anyone forced to leave their country should be compensated, and I can see no reason why this should not also include the Palestinians who were not allowed to retrurn to the territory which became Israel.
2. Hmmmm. Since Israel Expelled Hundreds of Thousands of
Doug ,   Rochester   (11.30.14)
Christian and Muslim Arabs at the point of a gun, a few years before any Jews were expelled, shouldn't Israel be the first to compensate those they expelled and stole land and bulldozed villages, churches and mosques? A just compensation of course would be to give them their land back, let them return, and pay to have their homes churches and mosques rebuilt. And shouldn't any compensation to Arab Jews be limited to those that were truly expelled. Not those that were scared into leaving by hearing propaganda from Jewish agents trying to increase the Jewish population of Israel. And not those that chose to leave on their own.

Wrong, as usual. The Arabs who left Israel did so in order to get out of the way of the "conquering Arab armies." As an added incentive, they were promised first crack at the property and homes that the Jews would leave behind when the Arabs pushed them into the sea. It didn't materialize, of course, but Israel is under no obligation to take back voluntary quits. They left of their own volition. They will not be permitted to return. I note that you failed to mention that those Arabs who did NOT leave are citizens of Israel to this day, with all of the rights and privileges of citizenship, although few of the obligations (Israeli Arabs are exempt from military service, and they do not pay municipal and other taxes). That said -- how ignorant are you? There is no such thing as an "Arab Jew," you moron. The Arabs thought they would win in 1948. They didn't. They started, and LOST, five additional wars. Boo hoo hoo. Cry me a river. Planning to demand that Poland restore East Prussia and the Polish Corridor to Germany? No? Really? Then what right do you have to demand that Israel restore nonsovereign land acquired in the course of fighting a defensive war against the Arabs? Are you also aware of the thousands of Jews who were either slaughtered or expelled from East Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria when Jordan took control? Eight hundred thousand Jews were expelled from Arab and Moslem lands. When you factor those who were terrorized into leaving, the number climbs well over one million. Why don't you learn the facts? The Jews never terrorized any Arabs into leaving; nor did they threaten them or force them to leave. Those Arabs left out of pure greed, dreaming of how quickly they could return and plunder the property which had belonged to the Jews. The fact that they made a bad choice is not Israel's problem. Typical ersatz "palestinian" behavior -- make bad choices, and then demanding a second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth chance. Doesn't work that way.

The "palestinians" were voluntary quits. They left of their own volition, tempted with promises of first rights of plunder of the property that the Jews would leave behind. Didn't quite work that way, though, did it? But how is that Israel's problem? What happened to all the Germans that lived in Sudeten and in East Prussia and in the Polish Corridor and the other ethnic German communities in Europe? What happened to one million Italians who lived in Istria, when that province was awarded to then-Yugoslavia following the end of World War II? So why should Israel give away a single square millimeter of territory acquired in the course of a defensive war, and why should Israel permit those who voluntarily left the Jewish state to return?
5. Writing own version of history!!
Yoav ,   Tel aviv   (11.30.14)
For how long we're going to keep writing our own version of history? For how long we want to keep justifying our actions? History is only one version!!!! Not many!

Patrik Björklund ,   Stockholm Sweden   (11.30.14)
This is is not consistent with historical facts. For example, the Jews in Iraq, were forced to flee already 1941 after hundreds of unarmed civilian jews were massacred i Bagdad by pro Nazi loyalists of Haj Amin Al-Husseini. This was was years before any Palestinian Arab refugees even existed. The same with the Egyptian jews that were persecuted and terrorized throughout the 1940's by the Muslim Brotherhood. These were citiens that posed no threat to their countries, unlike many of the Palestinian Arabs that took up arms with the open goal to eradicate all Jews in the region. Many of the Arabs also fled without being forced to, even though of course many fled at gunpoint. But as usual with people with anti-Israel opinions historical facts mean little.

Here's an excerpt and eyewitness account from someone that was there at the time ,.. THE RIOTS OF 1941 "If, as I have said, my family in Iraq was not persecuted personally and I knew no deprivation as a member of the Jewish minority, what led me to the steps of the gallows as a member of the Zionist underground? To answer that question, it is necessary to establish the context of the massacre that occurred in Baghdad on June 1, 1941, when several hundred Iraqi Jews were killed in riots involving junior officers of the Iraqi army. I was 12 years of age and many of those killed were my friends. I was angry, and very confused" ,... For more google " the jews of Iraq" by Naeim Giladi
11. RIVLIN, A JEW WITH A STEEL SPINE
Mighty Jew Young ,   America is beautiful   (12.01.14)
Glad he's going after restitution at long last...go! Rivlin Go! and how about good old Jordan and their hocus pocus sleight of hand with territorial rip offs. START WITH JEWRUSALEM, Temple Mount, etc.
12. Wow... will they blame Russia, too...
Miron ,   USA   (12.01.14)
If I remember correctly, first they blamed Russia for "not letting" Jewish people out, to live in Israel. Will the freaks try to blame Russia for "letting" Jewish people out to Israel, now...
13. The Arab League mentioned compensation.
(12.01.14)
This is one of those subjects that's just touched on during organizational reporting but details are never furnished. Are each country where Jewish relinquished lands during this time period going to give details of lands and properties with monetary compensation amounts and/or regaining former lands? Finding out about Palestinian personnel who find themselves in Arab countries, their acquisitions of land and property would also be a topic of discussion. Also helpful would be the number of Arab refugees that have sought refuge in Europe and the Western Hemisphere due to wars in the Middle East and northern Africa. We can just hope and pray that this one issue of many may be resolved in the pursuit of this evasive resolution for the Peace Process. Peace on Earth and Goodwill to Man (Ladies and Gentlemen).
14. #1, #2 how about we call it even?
(12.01.14)
since israel took in the refugees and made them citizens, maybe the arab nations can do the same to their Palestinian 'brothers' in their nations. a standard population exchange.

Well, if I remember correctly, didn't the Soviet Union have to close eleven universities once Jews were permitted to leave the Soviet Union? Serious brain drain, boychik. And those were just the ones who were allowed to leave. Most of the rest went to the gulags -- thus causing another fifteen Soviet universities to close. Big fan of Russia, are you? Even Putin, who is nothing more than a reincarnation of Stalin? Crimea has already been re-absorbed. Next is Moldavia. After that, Putin will look beyond to Estonia, and its thriving IT business. Sweetcheeks, whether in the name of G-d, the Tsar or the Communist Party, someone has always had their boot on Russian necks. What does Putin call it? "Reining in the oligarchs?" Most of whom are, as you know, Jewish. Well, that's to be expected. The Jews are a lot smarter than a bunch of drunken Russians. Deal with it. We study; you drink. Therein, sluggo, the difference.

Well, I suspect there's a reason that the majority of Arab states have steadfastly refused to take in displaced ersatz "palestinians" (refugees, they are not; they left voluntarily). The countries that did take them in paid a dear price. Jordan. Syria. Egypt. Lebanon. Tunisia. They seem to create problems wherever they go. The only place they seem to NOT want to go is the "palestine" authority. Can't think why. Actually, I can. Subject for another post, another day.
17. How about just agree exchange refugees
Jason ,   US Westchester   (12.01.14)
Arab League and Israel just agree exchange refugees.

Need to draft you to the MIsrad HaChutz! great job, but... these talkbacks are an exercise in futility. So many of the ones that need to be preached to arent worth the breath (or time) doing so. They were born, as my local Rabbi says, drinking Anti-Semitism with their mothers' milk. In any event, continued Yishar Koach for trying to put these pinheads in their place.
