1. Benefits outweigh risks?
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (12.04.14)
Clearly not when the performing Rabbi gives the baby a "metzitza b'peh" and infects him with herpes.
2. #1 what a dunce. In over 3,000 years
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.04.14)
perhaps there was a handful of babies who died after a circumcision. How many THOUSANDS of babies have died (read, killed) THIS YEAR by doctors born and unborn? Besides, those 2 babies who died in the US after the circumcision was not because of "metzitza b'peh" performed but because they had siblings with herpes.
3. circumcision
Nicolas ,   geneve switzerland   (12.04.14)
Sure if you remove an organ, it wont get infected. Try with your brain. Stop to sexual mutilation to boys who cannot ask for it.
4. Professional surgeon might do it in a surgery room
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.04.14)
In a clean setting, using the right tools, with parents' permission. Later, they can pray as much as they want, once the baby is out of risk from you know who.
5. The uncircumcised are cut off from the spiritual blessings
Rivkah   (12.04.14)
of Abraham. They are heathen which is another word for uncircumcised in Scriptures. Yeshua the Jewish Messiah said those who love Him would obey His Commandments which is the Torah. Circumcision in Leviticus is an everlasting commandment and will be practiced in the Millenium rule of Yeshua as king of kings and lord of lords of the earth.
6. Health benefit dubious
N ,   N   (12.06.14)
Evolution already caught up with people living together in large groups and being plagued by lice, etc. on the one hand and to ability to make clothes on the other - and hence the humans of today have less hair than their ancestors. If the reduction of the foreskin would reduce the probability of urinary tract infections and sexual transmitted infections then the reduction would be an evolutionary advantage. As the foreskin isn't rudimentary, it is dubious that there is a significant overall health benefit, at least not for young people in countries where HIV isn't widespread. (And to know that there is a some kind HIV-"protection" can mislead circumcised men to be less cautious.)
7. To #6
HH ,   Jerusalem   (12.07.14)
Glad to hear you are more knowledgeable than the CDC researchers. Frankly, your second paragraph is rather unclear. Among other things, it presupposes that HIV existed from prehistoric times, which is why (according to N.N.) we OUGHT to have discerned some evolutionary advantage to circumcision. Something #6 claims not to have found. Who told you that HIV is not a modern-day mutation that did not previously exist? Ergo, it could not have any evolutionary advantage that you or anyone else could discern.. In any case, it's only a mitzva for Jews. If you are not Jewish, you're free to do as you please.
8. Circumcision is a must to belong
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.12.14)
to the Jewish people. Health benefits are a side effect.
