1. According to the popular belief...
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (12.05.14)
...during the 80's in Israel Shimon Peres' mother was an Arab. And... he owned shares in Tadiran. Remember?
2. Prejudice & hate is a learned passion that is passed by non-
Moshe ,   Usa   (12.05.14)
Jews, as Judaism preaches justice based on moral & ethical behavior as presented in the Torah. We do not hate other religious denominational members, we hate immoral & unethical behavior.Jews are often made the objects of hate. Christians have historically shown their hate for us so that they could form a religion distinctive enough to present to pagan converts so they would regard themselves as unique and superior to Judaism so they could grow in numbers of believers. In other words, Christianity always said that "Judaism is wrong about Jesus, therefore Judaism & Jews are bad". And Christianity has kept its teachings simple. "Love, forgiveness & tolerance" is all one needs to be Christian. And that's how they gathered so many adherents. And even if they stole your farm as they did my Great Grandfather's farm, all they had to do was go confess to their priest for forgiveness. Pretty simple religious club to get involved in, isn't it. And anyone who reads a history book will tell you that the malevolence that Christian civilizations showed us Jews is a result of their Church learning. Even Martin Luther placed diatribes of hate for Jews on his Church doors. And as far as Islam goes, Mohamud hated everyone.
3. Kuwaiti Vs. Palestinian
David ,   USA   (12.05.14)
This guy is a Palestinian. I am not sure why the article say he is Kuwaiti. He lived in Kuwait with his family, doe snot make him a Kuwaiti. or is it ynet. trying to say that Palestinians do not exist. the whole article is screwed up and written by an 8 year old.
4. Demography
Olivier ,   Paris   (12.05.14)
I can imagine that almost everybody in the mediternanean arabic or western world has at least one ancestor along maternal line who is jewish... So everybody is jewish....
5. @3 If you're going to be pedantic, he is Egyptian.
Just the facts ,   PT IL   (12.05.14)
It is right in the name, al Masri. This would be consistent with the history in which there was a large 19th century Egyptian migration into the area.
6. Big question
John ,   Jerusalem   (12.05.14)
who is a Jew? I need an answer
7. Palastinian born in Kuwait
Tareq Marafie ,   Kuwait   (12.05.14)
Hi All, just a note the guy is not Kuwaiti he came from a Palastinian family who lived in Kuwait, as a kuwaiti I know most of Kuwaiti family names, the name Halwa for us indicate that the family is either from palastine or jordan but not Kuwait.
8. Why all the cynicism?
Froike` ,   NY US   (12.05.14)
Whatever the reason, those who choose to become part of our people should be accepted without prejudice!
9. @7 The name Halawa is native to Egypt, so he is Egyptian...
Just the facts ,   petah tikva IL   (12.06.14)
by your logic, he is an Egyptian born in Kuwait. Both family names Halawa and al-Masri are Egyptian. They find themselves in Jordan or Palestine, the same way they found themselves in Kuwait. If you can't accept he is Kuwaiti by birth because of the family name then you can't argue he is Jordanian or Palestinian either for the same reasons.
10. Ridiculous Halacha
Peter ,   Jerusalem   (12.06.14)
If you have one "right" jewish great-grandmother, and 7 non-jewish great-parents, you are jewish. For instance if your maternal grandmother's mother was jewish, so you are. If you have 3 jewish grandparents and a single non jewish grandmother, you may not be jewish. Your father may be jewish and your mother's father too, and it still would not count.
11. Mazel and Bracha !
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.07.14)
Someone genuinely determined to convert will not find the system so impossible. He could have argued Halachically that he is born Jewish and needs no conversion. He could have said he wants to be Jewish but not bother about observance etc.
12. Father's Tribe
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.07.14)
The rule about Moabites not being allowed to convert refers to male Moabites only. Regarding Tribes, there is a case of a boy in the Pentateuch with an Israelite mother and an Egyption father. The son is Jewish like his mother, but belongs to no Tribe because his father is not Jewish. Today we still say a son follows the father's Tribe as Cohane, Levi or Yisrael.
13. 10
i ,   jerusalem   (12.07.14)
Not complicated, nor ridiucluous sir, it is called matrilinial descent. It is learned by a deduction from a passage in Torah, and it is, without the benefit of dna tests, always easier to track who the mother is, over who the father is.
14. To #10...the number of Halachic Jews in France
Anthony Fallon ,   Manchester UK   (12.14.14)
has fallen by around 220,000 since 1990 to the current number of 480,000. The new Chief Rabbi of France courts non-Halachic Jews & describes them as part of the 'Jewish seed'. In a similar vein, since 1990, hundreds of thousands of non-Halachic Jews mainly from the old USSR have immigrated to Israel under the Law of Return to help counteract the growing proportion of Israeli Moslems (currently over 1.5 million) within her pre 1967 borders and in addition, because the Nazis version of 'who is a Jew' is different from Halacha, a significant % of the six million who perished were non-Halachic Jews. I don't recall any attempt by the Holocaust industry to revise their figures based on this fact. In addition, all non-orthodox congregations in the US encourage non-Halachic synagogue membership & participation. Non Halachic Jews are classed as Jews when it is advantageous to do so as in the case of the Holocaust or out of Demographic & inter-marital necessity.
