dealing with zero VAT law. Haber will damn Netanyahu if he does and damn if he doesn't.
2. The stupidest editorial yet
Shep Fargotstein ,   United States   (12.05.14)
So the writer thinks that Israel - and the world - have a solution to the problem with Islamic Exrtremism bu t they just need to sit down with their legs crossed, meditate and hum for a while? It's true about the demographic problems of Muslims in the West and it's true that Israel is surrounded by enemies (that is not new). What the writer fails to acknowledge is that dealing with the future is fluid to a large degree. Alliances fold and alliances are created. Weapons become obsolete and the balance of power changes. These are issues that can be influenced at the margins, but not "changed". This article borders on naive and childish in it's view of the world.
3. solutions
David   (12.05.14)
Yes, the security situation needs to be the priority, and that is precisely why Netanyahu should remain the PM. He is the only party leader with the courage and capacity to avoid a disastrous national surrender that we would never be able to reverse. The author uses "solution" as a proxy for such prescriptions, which are certainly no prescription for stability or security, or anything worthy. I must also add that whatever you say about Netanyahu, you cannot accuse him of authoring the zero-VAT proposal, or any of the other social reforms that have been debated and in some cases passed in the past few years-- these were concerns of the socially minded coalition partners (Yesh Atid particularly). That is the nature of coalition building in Israel. People have legitimate concerns other than security-- and sometimes they express this in their votes. Occasionally they vote for people that are disastrous on the more basic questions. Occasionally Israel elects people that are disastrous on the more basic questions as well. You cannot rightly accuse Netanyahu of fitting this description. But more to the point, you certainly cannot honestly accuse him of not "caring" about security issues. The fact that he isn't promoting a quick, thoughtless acquiescence to the whims of the many people who have a fundamental problem with the basic idea of Zionism (Obama**), hardly means that he doesn't care. If you disagree with him on this, have the courage to say so.
4. so what is your solution
CJK   (12.05.14)
the so-called islamic wave will be defeated only when the rest of the world unites to defeat it. for the time being, the "world" is much more preoccupied with the building of apartments in jerusalem than with the rising wave of jihadi terror in their own lands. the american president praises muslims to high heaven and declared on french television that america is a muslim country. he bombs isis without any real intention to degrade it. he makes a deal with iran without any real intention to keep it from becoming a nuclear power. the europeans are paralysed in the face of their muslim populations. they fear being called racists more than they fear the nazi like terrorists. israel is the jew of nations that most would throw to the wolves in the mistaken belief that thus they could save themselves. the "world" will pay a very high price for their appeasement policies.
5. Can at last Abbas latest 'strategy' be consigned
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (12.05.14)
To the Dustbin? Devoid and empty of ideas he and his dinosaur cronies over the last few months embarked on a sort of 'crusade' against Israel, entertains us with his new macho revolutionary Keffiyeh persona, makes theatrical grand gestures on his expensive live global entertainment tour and works up Palestinian youths to a frenzy of violence that is now backfiring big time on Palestinian Society So the solution? First RESTORE stability and RESPECT for the Law in East Palestine in the West Bank Second get the Economy back on track. With his latest escapades, his torrid 'unity sham marriage' where he let himself be hoodwinked by Mashaal to draw East Palestine into direct conflict Abbas has single handedly destroyed a DECADE of work by us in the Diaspora to get Palestinians to invest in new businesses to grow the economy Abbas must in the National Interest create the conditions for inward investment, open and free trade with Jordan, Israel and Egypt and undertake the vital long term joint infrastructure projects that can boost the regional economy Last but not least - CALL NETANYAHUS BLUFF...and continue with negotiations no matter how many settlement announcements he calls - because at the end of the day the location of a House is not going to determine the terms of the Agreement. And SET NO TIME LIMIT to the talks

If it is a tsunami then by definition it cannot be stopped. Just like real tsunamis better to get used to learning how to live with it.
