Dr. Lavie's comments are sad. His conclusion that the Israeli government should take this more seriously is correct. However, a major failure of the Netanyahu govt is that it has failed to project any vision for a resolution: if not the 2-state solution, then what? Americans increasingly see this as unending occupation, followed by resistance and war, and that there will be no end. To change the tenor on campus (or in Europe, etc.), the Israeli govt must put forward some goal of ending the current situation, and not simply respond to each upsurge in violence by the Palestinians.

The article in the "Sud Deutsche Zeitung" about Israelis living in Germany has only in the last few days been demolished as a hoax, a lie, and an exaggeration in the deepest tradition of Yellow Journalism. There are no more than 11,000 Israelis in Berlin, a large proportion of whom are only temporary residents. In fact, the Israeli leader of the social protests who had moved to Germany and made waves about cost of living, has in fact returned to Israel. What does that say about the rest of your claim? And "Israel cannot sell anything without goingt though the USA"? Seriously? Most of Israel's exports are to the EU. A growing number are to Asia. Get a clue.

The anti-Israel propaganda movmements on campus are the works of Arab, Moslem, pro-palestinian, and extreme lefttist/fascist pressure groups which represent but a tiny proportion of the student body. Most students are there to get an education and a degree. They are subjected to crippling student loans, and their parents are saddled with vast expenses to put them through college. A lot of students and parents resent university campuses being turned into centers of propaganda and indocrination and a battle ground for the Arab-Israeli conflict.
