2. They've Got It All Wrong.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (01.09.15)
Women can be scholars and teachers, but never judges and Poskim. This authority was only given to men. As much as the priesthood was given only to the Kohanim and the monarchy only to the House of David, only men were given the right to decide Halacha. Once the first woman makes a "Halachic decision", it will be a serious breach with traditional Orthodox Judaism no less severe than what the Reform and Conservative movements have tried to do for well over two hundred years. And look where they are. Ultimately, those who follow this errant path will break from authentic Torah observance and, once again, create a new and false brand of "Judaism" and another heretical theology which will upset the unity and cohesiveness of Am Yisroel. Stop this nonsense while it is still in its infancy.
3. Why do we need recognized rabbis?
Jake ,   Jerusalem   (01.11.15)
Why can't women say halachas? You don't need to be a rabbi to know what is proper, read the Shulcan Orach. If your neighbor asks you if something is permitted and you know the answer do you have to refrain and not tell him or can you open your mouth and tell him? Of course if you know, tell him. The concept of rabbis is a questionable concept. Why? There are rabbis and there are 'chachams'. The Chafetz Chaim did not get smicah (rabinical title) until much later in his life. Why? What for? The same is true for women. If she knows the halacha, great. If she doesn't so keep the mouth shut. For contemporary problems, we only look for the greatest minds to decide and so any old rabbi is not worth too much, and that includes women (unless she has a super duper mind)
