1. All Jews are Israeli
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.13.15)
Whether they want it or not. If they wish to be recognized as Jews, then they are bnai Israel. Jacob was the father of the twelve tribes, and Ha'Shem changed his name to Israel. Israel has always had a dual identity. The land and the people. Jacob/Israel was the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. Israel is, of course, the physical plant. Israel is where Mr. Hattab, z"l, belongs. No offense or insult intended to the people of Tunisia. But Tunisia is foreign soil, and the Jews have never quite belonged. In the best of times, they have been barely tolerated. The Tunisians have made that quite plain. Well, let's just look at the facts, shall we? Has the Tunisian government made a single, solitary statement about the murder of Mr. Hattab? No. It hasn't. Enough said. Yoav has come home. And if the Tunisian people are somewhat embarrassed -- well, I can certainly understand that. Richly deserved humiliation.
2. As a Tunisian Jew
BUILD BABY BUILD !!!   (01.13.15)
or a Jew from any other nation remember ALL Jews originate from Israel. It is fitting he is buried as a Jew in Israel. A terrible loss for both Israel and Tunisia. Fight Islamic terror so the world is a safer place for us and our children. KEEP BUILDING !!!
3. It's time to stop
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (01.13.15)
The terrorists will have won if the polarised positions taken up by this or that community become increasingly entrenched. Let us not confuse governments with peoples - Tunisian, French, Israeli, American, etc. TIt is understandable why the family of this victim wanted him buried in Israel but we also need to understand the inclusivist sentiments of his Tunisian friends. We should build on that - not use it as an excuse for political posturing. Let us not permit the actions of what has been correctly termed a 'murderous fascistic cult' to cause ever more divisiveness among decent people.
4. "Goyim" don't understand Jews attachment to Israel
(01.13.15)
No matter whether your ancestors were born in France Tunisia or USA a Jew is always ancestrally attached to Israel. It is the only land in history that they have returned to and that continues to welcome then with "open arms ". It's the only state which continues to defend consistently the right of Jews to practice their religion without hindrance or restriction. It is the symbolic and actual manifestation of a people not merely a religious faith.
5. They should have come to Israel for his burial.
Anon ,   Johannesburg SA   (01.13.15)
Israel is a democracy and everyone is welcome – unless his friends believe the Arab sponsored propaganda and lies about Israel, there really is no reason why they can not come to pay their respects like the rest of his friends and family. They are more then welcome. Maybe they will even see Israel for what it really is – a free and prosperous democratic country under daily threat of radical Islam. They can go eat a great shwarma in Jerusalem, pay their respects in the Jewish cemetery, and make it just in time for prayers in the Mosque on Tel Aviv beach.
6. Tunisia where most Jews left
Michelle ,   Basel, Switzerland   (01.13.15)
I find it odd that they talk about Tunisia as the land of his Ancestors. Considering there was a 105,000 Tunisian Jewish population which is now only 1,500. Jews must have loved it so much they just gave up their homes and decided to leave. I don't doubt there were good relations for an instant, at some points in history. However, wasn't it with a recent Norweigan ship that the Tunisian Authorities refused to let Israeli (Jewish) passengers ashore to spend the day in port.
7. All Jews are NOT Israeli
Rafi ,   Merkaz, Israel   (01.13.15)
All Jews are Israeli? What nonsense! And I, along with many other Israelis, don't understand why they were brought here for burial - especially with so many government officials falling over themselves to attend.
8. To Sarah B.
Rafi ,   Merkaz, Israel   (01.13.15)
BTW, by saying that all Jews are Israelis, you are using the same logic applied by anti-Semites to justify their murderous acts. Witness the remarks by the BBC interviewer who blamed the Paris attack on Israeli treatment of Pals. Not all Jews are Israeli, just as not all Israelis are Jews.
9. To #1
Big Yossi ,   Israel   (01.13.15)
Now that's a creative idea that the Tax Authority would love to implement. All Jews are Israeli, 'eh? Let 'em all pay mas hachnasa to Israel, no matter where they live.
10.  Terrible tragedy for the families
ky   (01.13.15)
but If it were me I would prefer to be buried in the nation that is my home near my friends and family. My home, even though I am a Jew, is not Israel. I have lived in Israel through two wars there and tried to help the best way I could. However I must say that I felt that I did not have the right to fight and kill those Arabs who believed it was their home . The more it was forced down my throat that it was, the less at home I felt. I am English and that is the way I was made and I cant help it. I do not take kindly to those who try to convince me that I am something that they want me to be. Sorry but I do not wish to be Israeli either in life or death.
11. Rafi, triangulating logic does not strengthen argument
Mea   (01.13.15)
You know perfectly well that most Israelis understand the concept of the Jewish homeland, aliyah and the ideological placement of Israel as spiritual state symbol. You circle and play games with conjecture but you know it is clear why the four were brought to Israel. On top of those reasons, Israel had an opportunity to call out France's tolerance of antisemiticsim in the name of votes. And that was the right thing to do. btw, the French sent the lowly head of the energy department to represent France. That was spit.
12. Good Sarah!
Joya ,   Israel   (01.13.15)
I like it, every Jew is Israeli עם ישראל חי
13. Sarah of #1
Cameron ,   USA   (01.14.15)
Well, well. Given that line of thought, would New York fall into the category of "foreign soil"?
