1. It would be funny if not sad!
sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (01.13.15)
They couldn't even wait seven days to let them mourn properly before hitting them up for money, and these are the people you want to come to Israel? This will sit very well in the French community.
2. Amazing
Joe Mevorah ,   Lincoln,USA   (01.13.15)
To charge a fee is insulting. These are the same people who encourages French Jews to immigrate. Come we will take and protect you. BY THE WAY BRING YOUR CHECKBOOK!!!
3. Open up a credible fund for donations you Morons!
Shep Fargotstein ,   Memphis, TN - USA   (01.13.15)
You'll have 100% of the money by Friday.
4. How insensitive, how inappropriate!
AB ,   TheRock   (01.13.15)
From the way bibi was speaking. All that come home business, who would have expected this? If they can't even treat these poor families properly how... The Torah says אמור מעט ועשה הרבה. Say less and do more.
5. Demanding payment from the victims'families
Jennifer Janes ,   Israel   (01.13.15)
I am disgusted! First the government tries to make political capital ( more likely damage) by offering burial here, then they ask them to pay! How low can they go....
6. The cost should be paid by the state.
Beary White ,   Norway   (01.13.15)
When someone of the jewish faith becomes a victim of (Islamic) terror, they have already obtained the right to have a state funeral. Their death is a result of terror against the jewish population as a whole, not as a singular person..
7. Federation will pay
Rabbi Yakov Lazaros ,   USA   (01.13.15)
The CJP of Boston just sent out a press release that they are contributing 100,000 dollars for the cost of the burials. So why do the families need to pay?
8. Charging $ For Burying the Paris Victims
Lynn ,   Tivon Israel   (01.13.15)
It really is BAD FORM/POOR TASTE to charge the families of the people who were killed at the Paris kosher market 50.000 shekels to be buried in Israel. Not everything is about money! What about being kind, thoughtful, considerate human beings or is that on Kosher?
9. #2 except you missed something
(01.13.15)
An Israeli who isn't a resident of Jerusalem, must pay similar sums to be buried in Jerusalem. Even Jerusalem residents are given only multi-storey burial plots, and must pay similar sums for ground plots. Basically the families refused the free plot any Jerusalem resident would get, and instead chose to bury their relatives in the expensive plots everyone else would have to buy. If someone failed, it is the low-level civil servant who did not solve the problem discretely.
10. Ah, ah, ah..... finally
Elaine Ray   (01.13.15)
people can see the real face of Israel's greed. I would tell the French Jews: stay where you are or you may be among the 20% who immigrate and EMIGRATE. Vive la france!!!
11. Bibi's flight cost
haver ,   tel aviv   (01.13.15)
Intead of sending Bibi to Paris for $170,000 the plots and funerals could have been played for. I'm embarrassed and disgusted!
12. Money from Paris community, not family
David ,   New york   (01.13.15)
The Jews of Paris will cover the costs ( from what the article says) What's wrong with that? (Clearly the family shouldn't be paying anything and people will be more than obligated to help)
13. #1, sheikh
Jake   (01.13.15)
Oh, I think the French Jewish community are more concerned about threats to lives from Islamic terrorists.
14. Federation reimbursement
Ruben ,   NYC, USA   (01.13.15)
Thats not the point. Why give CNN and the world an antisemitic PR bonanza?
15. Am I the only one who thinks they should pay?
Ralph ,   Rome   (01.14.15)
It just doesn't feel right. I mean, I am sure that a donor would turn up and take that upon himself anyway, but it was their decision to bury them in Israel, why does the State have to pay?.
16. Oh yes! Come home so we can rob you blind!
Indi ,   London, UK   (01.14.15)
And they want French Jews to come to Israel. How sick!
17. maybe govt want families to auction the legion d'honneur
(01.14.15)
Maybe the ministry of religious affairs thought it would be a good idea for the families to auction their respective awards of the legion d'honneur to pay for the burial plots and by so doing make the French Government pay for the callous lack of security given to the French Jewish community. That way they can balance the budget and make a political point too. Or even maybe close down that department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and save the expenditure of government to pay for the burials using the remaining surplus to get some talented civil servants.
18. Typical Israel, charge a bill and make us fight about it,,,,
Nathaniel   (01.14.15)
did they send the bill to the families using a 1987 style of communication but all time fav today in Israel, a FAX!!
19. #18 rule of law
(01.14.15)
There is a Law: you get free storied burial plots, you buy the ground burial plots. The French refused the free plots and demanded the ground burial plots. The burial society was following the Law when they asked that someone pay. You don't like the Law, change it.
20. !! Calm Down -- It's Just Bureaucracy
Ovadiah ben Avraham ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.14.15)
It's an unusual situation, and it's a bureaucracy of several unrelated offices not communicating well, with time pressure added. It's unpleasant for the families, but such arrangements are never a happy occaission anyway. The press doesn't need to be screaming about it. Sheesh. In the end it was resolved, in short order.
21. Cheva Kaddisha cashing in as usual
Mia   (01.14.15)
Cheva Kaddisha never miss a golden opportunity to line their pockets, disgraceful about time that organisation was dismantled
22. Agree with Ralph
ggg   (01.14.15)
Absolute nonsense that we the taxpayers should fit the bill. We already have to deal with the money grubbing hevra kadishe - the body isn't yet cold before they're on the phone demanding extra money - but Jewish or not Jewish, these are still foreign residents. Bennett is a disgrace - a trouble-making zealot with no other interest but that of what is still a minority of grabbing settlers.
23. DISCUSTING
Tino Travatoni ,   Rhodesia   (01.14.15)
I really had bad dream$ about it. it is one of these thing$ that make$ you think about how uncivilized some people can be. It i$ all about the Money. The holy money. Belive me i knew something like that was going to happen
24. Even if they pay a million I will not let H-K bury me.
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.14.15)
25. bibi the gutzpani
rolf ,   holland   (01.14.15)
bibi's flight cost and his scandalous behavior in paris proof that he has no clue of the damage he causes to israel. let us pray that he will not be reelected
26. 15 no you're not
(01.14.15)
lots of Israelis don't even understand why for strangers came to be buried here in Israel. They're French citizens and should be buried there. If the families want to burry them here they should bare the final consequences and not the state (us) Not every Jew is Israeli as not every Israeli is a Jew. End of the story
27. we want to give you a present but your going to have to pay
zionist forever   (01.14.15)
The government were pushing the families to bury their relatives in Israel acting like we want them in Israel because thats where Jews belong but then after they agreed to bury them in Israel the government turned round and said you know you must pay for this. There might still be restrictions on where they can be buried because of the citizenship laws but the cost of the funerals themselves is less than pocket change for the government so would have been easy for government to pay, asking the families to shell out so much money for a funeral they could have had for a fraction of the price in France is disgusting
