4. Judaism ought be less strict
Zechariah   (02.10.15)
Judaism ought be less strict because the religion of 1000 years ago has to adjust to some degree to scientific progress .Generally in Israel it has but there is a problem with conversions .Its vexed because socially some need the stamp. In fighting war technological advantages are essential and motivation vital and the Religious Zionists provide many combat soldiers .The Haredim are too tough especially sinse they rely on the secular and Religious Zionists to do the Fighting and suffer injury .The Bitterness of the Shoah will never pass the Palestinian refugees have the gift of life yet still are placed by their fellow Arabs in disgusting positions leading to terrorist breeding grounds and the Viscious cycle.

9. MAKE HIM AN EXAMPLE OF severe greedy CRIMINAL PUNISHMENT
Jewdas ,   ATLANTA GA USA   (02.10.15)
HE IS THE GREAT greedy BETRAYER... His greed HAS BETRAYED HIS OFFICES, HIS TORAH, HIS COUNTRY AND HIS RELIGION. Shame on him. He has brought his greedy shame on all Jewish people everywhere. He must be shown to the world, to be the crook he became and needs a remaining lifetime behind bars...with no mercy. And seize all his property.

Well apparently not.
11. Perhaps he used the money for chesed
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (02.10.15)
"The police investigation showed that millions of shekels in donations were allegedly transferred to non-profit organizations connected to the rabbi." It doesn't sound like he was buying jewelry, eating at fancy restaurants, and driving a Ferrari.
12. Editor Needed
Amit N. ,   USA   (02.10.15)
Aviel and Ynet staff, please employ a spellchecker before uploading articles. The spelling, grammar and even arithmetic errors are glaring. Not only are you obligated to higher standards because you are journalists but also because you are an internationally accessible window into the democratic Israeli society. I'm willing to help if you're serious about your credibility outside of Israel. Thanks.
13. If any gentile still wants to be Jewish . . .
nibor ,   israel   (02.10.15)
I say they are welcome to it, no bribery, no stringent studies. I think Judaism should kick him out!
14. How much is a half
Robin ,   Israel   (02.10.15)
" a Rabbi living abroad, who received $360,000 for the conversion. It is suspected that Rabbi Metzger received half of the amount paid to the foreign rabbi, $18,000." $18000 is very small half of the $360000 I think... LOL
15. How Jews can follow people like this is unbelievable.

17. Rabbis are trained to
Sagi   (02.10.15)
steal people's minds, what ensues is the natural outcome of their basic training.
18. Whats worse?
David ,   Australia   (02.10.15)
That he stole millions or that he has gone and ruined the reputation and name of Jews and Judaism around the world. In the war against anti-Semitism, he has definitely done the Jewish people wonders where people can now accurately claim that Jews are corrupt and immoral, proven by the position he held.
19. what is the saying?
Barney ,   USA   (02.10.15)
a shanda for the goyim. put this bum in jail once proven guilty
20. to Baruch ar number 11....
exUK ,   TEL AVIV   (02.10.15)
I dont care what he did with the money.Either someone is deserving of a conversion if he/she is sincere,in which case it should be FREE,...OR no amount of money should help or be relevant! These so called religious guys are a "mafia protectionist gand, who are protecting themselves under the guise of protecting the faith. If the would be converts had no large amount of money, they would get nowhere,or be expected to spend years working for a religious family. A 4th generation zionist girl was refused a marriage here because ,having been unable to produce 4 generations of Ketuba,(her family perished in the holocaust). On the other hand when it involves millions of immigrants of uncertain faith or descendents, and when the issue is demographics, the problems seemed to disappear. The whole set up puts the country in a very bad light. We surelt need people running the place who are capable of putting the needs of the place before their own career?
21. A great reason NOT to have any 'chief' rabbis!
David ,   Hartford USA   (02.10.15)
Power corrupts and 'chief' power corrupts absolutely. You want to have a rabbinic court? Fine. Do so- as long as there are at least 3 or 5 rabbis to officiate. But any 'chief' rabbi is a recipe for corruption. The time of Chief Rabbis is over. People must make their own decisions and not rely on these questionable characters. The Chief Rabbi of Israel.. The Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem.. The Chief Rabbi of Bubushka.. The Ashkenaz Chief Rabbi The Sephardi Chief Rabbi The Heredi Chief Rabbi The Female Chief Rabbi The Transgender Chief Rabbi Really, put less faith in these Indian Chiefs and more in your own ideals. The whole idea of a chief rabbi of anything is wrong. Israel should outlaw the practice. You belong to a synagogue, you like the rabbi, you listen to him: Dayenu! Everything else is hubris.

Mr Secular   (02.11.15)
No wonder they don't want to give up the rabbanoutes power on marriage etc
25. Religious hypocracy
David   (02.11.15)
The very same man judging and slandering Israels gay population. Well yes i am gay and happy with that too but i havent had so much as a parking ticket, unlike this so called rabbi who preaches on morality. With morals like that i think we can clearly see the true face of religion, which it turns out is the source of all evil in the world todahy
