The unusually-high expenses were found during the two-year tenure of one such civil servant who was fired by Mrs. Netanyau, apparently when she found out about his crazy expenses. The real questions are: Who hired the civil servant, why wasn't he fired sooner. Why did it take the Comptroller 4 years(!) to investigate such a simple matter? He is paid enough to be more efficient. Why did the Comptroller publish this unproven (and apparently false) suspicion now, when Netanyahu does not have time to defend himself and where it looks like intervention in favor of the Labor party? Why does the Comptroller refuse to investigate Herzog's role in the real crime of Amutot Barak?

Israel is not America. It is a tiny country of 7 million people. One third of the country is below the poverty line. Housing here is several times more expensive than anywhere in the world, and the apartments themselves are not required to fit as high of standards as elsewhere. Food is more expensive here. Prices rise disportionately in relation to salaries. Netanyhou has raised the age of retirement to 67. He wants to raise it to 70. Our hospitals are shutting down because we don't have enough equipment and beds. Doctors and nurses are paid so little they are striking several times a year leaving our very sick patients in danger. A prime minister in a country like this has to set an example and cannot behave the way he and his wife are behaving.

i understand your position. i understand that israel is stressed economically. however, there were times in israel when the situation was infinitely worse. all that said, the amount the prime minister spends is not enormous given his position and his responsibilities. more importantly, the release of this report just before elections is a disgrace. it is an obvious attempt to tilt the elections to the left.
