1. the best defense is
arne ,   chicago usa   (03.31.15)
a good offense--Israel must continue to build new and innovative weapons that can be delivered from the land, sea and air with such devastation that who-ever attacks them will be very sorry.Unfortunately there is no way to fully put a protective umbrella over all the country, but with that being said, I would prioritize the infrastructure.
2. Lebanon must be warned
Rabbi Yakov Lazaros ,   USA   (03.31.15)
that if hezbollah fires rockets G-d forbid then the the Israeli air force will turn Lebanon into a black hole. That is the best deterrence.
3. Strike First - Action always beat Reaction !.

4. Acceptable losses
Avramele   (03.31.15)
Am waiting for all our patriots in Chicago and NY, experts that they are in all matters military down to Israel's tactical nuclear capababilities and the strategic use of amulets, to hypothesize on how many Israeli casualties they can live with in the next Lebanon war.
5. Ynet has its finger on the panic button !

6. Guided Missiles
Doodie ,   Canada   (03.31.15)
My understanding is that Iron Dome is designed to predict the trajectory of unguided ballistic missiles, and that it may not be able to track guided missiles that have unpredictable flight patterns. That being said, it would probably be better to defend infrastructure.
7. IDF
Muhammad Jaboli ,   Jbeil, Lebanon   (04.01.15)
Over the wars that the IDF had, most of the wars resulted in them retreating after a ceasefire (probably all of them). When they fought Hamas, nearly 80% of the casualties were civilian. The amount of homes and lives destroyed is enormous. Yet, after all this, they couldn't destroy Hamas as they promised. They have never proven themselves in any battle. In 2006, after claiming they have destroyed all of Hezbollah, out of nowhere Hezbollah backfired with barrages of missiles. How do they expect to fight Hezbollah now compared to back then? They're atleast 10x stronger than they were. I'm very... veryyy skeptical about their claims.
8. Military solution
Peter ,   Toroonto Canada   (04.01.15)
People talking about tactical nukes , they forgot the following factors: 1. Nukes are dirty and contaminate the area , with short distances it will cause contamination of Israel 2. It will look too bad than strong power uses nukes when there is no existential thread 3. Israel possess sufficient firepower to deal with the issue (please see IFB500 bombs) with weapons like this delivered with precision you can achieve devastation close to tactical nuke. 4. Israel can use massive power of the armor, protected by Trophy This is all the matter of will to win.
9. Topple what's left of Assad and let Sunni Shia kill
Avi L.   (04.01.15)
Topple what's left of Assad forces and let Sunni and Shia kill each others, while sitting on the good fence. Assad hasn't been able to stop the insurgents, Hezballah neither and Iran had to step in. Let's use Assad's approach. Let our foes kill each other and in the end say to the world "us or ISIS".
10. Doomsday scenario?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.01.15)
I think a great deal of a potential conflict with Hezbollah will depend on the stomachs of both Lebanon and Hezbollah for a punishing round with Israel. Hezbollah is overextended in Syria -- which shows no sign of abating -- and depending on the level of punishment which Israel will inflict, Hezbollah may find itself fighting both the Lebanese military and the IDF. This is not a conflict that Hezbollah has any hope of winning, and it has a very strong likelihood of being Hezbollah's death knell.
11. deterrence has its limits
tom ,   toronto, canada   (04.01.15)
deterrence is a great idea, but... it doesn't work. at least not against crazies who actually believe that they're on a mission from god, and against a crazy leadership that is in no way accountable for the harm it causes its own people. suicide bombers aren't deterred by threats of imprisonment or capital punishment - they want to die. the best "deterrence" for jihadists is to kill them before they can harm anyone, to block their missues, and to build shelters for every israeli.
12. what i don't understand...
mark ,   usa   (04.01.15)
Is if Hezbollah, attacks with a missile rate that this article forcast, then articles of war give israeli air force the green light to lay waste to launch sites not with pin pick five hundred pound bombs but with cluster bombs, erase whole areas of operational zones of missile fire. Come on now to launch 1200 missiles per day requires logistical freedom of movement, something that can be prevented with carpet bombing operational lines of fire. In other words missiles launched from location x, results in elimination of site X plus one square mile around site X. Fuel air bomb it, then systematically gring every structure into rubble then follow up with custer bomb mines with ramdon delayed fuses. Don't wait, inform the UN that these war powers will be Israel's responce to the first missile launched, and will continue until Hezbollah is dealt a death blow.
13. The return address for iranian weapons must be Iran!!
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (04.01.15)
The way to deal with Iranian missiles stationed in Lebanon by Iran, illegally placed there by Iran in violation of UN sanctions, and launched by Iranian operatives...is to retaliate massively against Iran itself. Cuban missile Crisis...did Kennedy threaten to bomb Havana if Russia fired Russian missles there, launched at the US? Hell no, he made clear that putting them there was an act of aggression, and the US response to their use would be an all out attack on Russia. Isreal must meke clear to the world that a missile attack on Israel by Iran, wheter from Iran or Lebanon, will result in all out war with Iran, with every weapon in its arsenal used to destroy Tehran and its nuclear facilities. Iran is plotting to destroy Israel with conventional missiles, the uranium plants are a diversion and insurance policy. The West is aiding and abetting this by failing to enforce UNSC1701.
14. There is another element
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (04.01.15)
Hezbollah are operating as occupiers of Lebanese Territory Over 70% of the population of Lebanon are seething against this State within a State answerable to a foreign power and is totally INTOLERABLE But there is no one entity including the Lebanese Army who can take on Hezbollah who threaten to turn their arsenals on LEBANESE PEOPLE should there be any threat to their power BUT in Lebanon are in the region of 15000 Patriots COMMITED TO THE LIBERATION OF LEBANON from Hezbollah and they will do that once there is a war with Israel so that Hezbollah will then have to fight on 2 fronts But that's not all Over the years, with good intelligence and INSIDE INFORMATION the Patriots now know the position of every bunker, every tunnel, every rocket cache, the command and control in South Lebanon and Bekaa and even they say Nasrallahs Beirut Bunker stuffed it is said with FOOD and.......Toilet Paper
15. 1200 rockets per day?
Cameron ,   USA   (04.01.15)
Could they feasibly swamp or overwhelm your defense measures through mass launch & sheer quantity? This coming war sounds as though it will be a mad race, minute by minute, to see who can faster and harder. Clearly, your array is vastly superior, but just how far would you honestly take the matter if the Hez manage to start hammering the populace?
16. an easier solution
brenrod   (04.01.15)
massive bombing and or tactical mini nukes will quickly destroy the will to fight but the policy of protecting enemy civilians at the expense of Israeli lives, whether military or civilians is ludicrous. I would never allow my son to fight in an army or for a nation that holds enemy lives higher and risks their own citizens lives. I prefer a live son to millions of live enemies.
17. Hopefully, hezbolla will be busy fighting ISIS for ever
Tomer   (04.01.15)
Yes, the Shiites fanatics will be killing the Sunni fanatics for years & years.. They will take iraq & Syria back to the stone age.
18. To: Cameron at No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.01.15)
Swamp or overwhelm Israel's defenses? Has it occurred to you that every now and again, Israel likes to issue a bit of disinformation calculated to lull our enemies into a false sense of power? Faster and harder? Do you really think Israel will just sit back and absorb 1,200 missiles per day without a response? We'll launch in a nanosecond, darling. Hezbollah and Lebanon will be reduced to a stinking pile of rubble, and you can wave good-bye as the mushroom clouds ascend. Can we? Of course. Will we? Of course. And the best part? The prevailing winds blow north. Straight towards Europe. No great loss. See, non-Jews tend to operate under the assumption that the phrase NEVER AGAIN is mere hyperbole. Well, darling, to the Jewish people, the phrase means something, and resonates quite deeply. Forgive us if we do what is necessary to ensure our survival. That's how far we would honestly take the matter. Hezbollah only gets to use the hammer once. If that. Welcome to the brave new reality. Israel and the Jewish people stay. Everyone else goes. Or we all go together. I'm betting on the former. NEVER AGAIN. Comprende, chico? We really, REALLY mean it.
19. REALITY for the keyboard generals . . .
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (04.01.15)
I find it interesting that the keyboard generals discount a very valid and reasonable assessment by the IDF. Here is some REALITY to go with the IDF report: (1) There is no such thing as a "tactical nuke." All nuclear weapons function the exact same way and they all create massive amounts of deadly by products such that If Israel uses nukes on Lebanon, Syria, Jordan or Egypt, Israel will be nuking its own citizens. That is, even if the rest of the world doesn't severely punish Israel for using nukes, Israel will be inhabitable. (2) There are no "magic" weapons. All weapons MUST conform to the laws of physics and conservation of energy. Every country on earth has access to all the same weapons. (3) Israel has a limited number of attack aircraft and there are many, many ways to knock them from the sky. The first day, Israel may be able to fly a fair number of sorties, but each day after, there will be few aircraft. (4) the bomb loads on each aircraft is very limited (5) cluster bombs are illegal and are only usable against civilians they are pretty worthless against military organizations.(6) anti-missile technology is almost worthless. I know the real world numbers about Iron Dome, but the IDF censor will not allow Ynet to publish them, but the information is readily available on the Internet. As the IDF pointed out, war with Lebanon would be very, very bad for Israel and the IDF could even lose.
20. Do what we can and
US citizen ,   US   (04.01.15)
trust God in death or life.
21. To: No. 19
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.02.15)
There are no "magic weapons." There are, however, weapons of mass destruction. The words "Never Again" actually mean something to the Jewish people. Israel is not going to lose any wars. But you need to understand that should that unlikely event loom on the horizon, we are not going quietly, and we are not going alone. We'll take a substantial portion of the world with us and render whatever is left uninhabitable for the next one hundred thousand years. Don't like it? Too, too bad.
22. Ynet censor why do you let this happen?
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (04.02.15)
For people other than Sarah, it is extremely easy to never see anything they write published. Less the 50% of the stuff I write ever gets published and I have tried very hard to just write factual stuff. On the other end of the sanity spectrum is Sarah who very openly advocates for global genocide (see #21) many times a week. Sarah gets published almost constantly even though she clearly displays signs of deep mental illness. Maybe that is the problem with Israel, the crazy people get to shout insanity every day and those that try to counter the insanity get censored. Oh well it is your screwed up future, not mine.
23. Hezbullah War
Jason Alster ,   Wethersfield , USA   (04.12.15)
Well , maybe the IDF wants to trap Hezbullah into thinking they have more power and effect than they really do.
