Instead of wasting good, edible food, why not give it away to the poor? there are loads of non-religious poor people, including many children, who would benefit from that food.

Chometz should be eaten or given to others. If there is a large value of chometz. e.g. whiskey, one sells the chometz. One should only burn a token chometz and not destroy good food.
