1. Fundemental to the Jewish State
Zechariah   (04.13.15)
For many people the Jewish connection to the Land of Israel is Clear but the Catastrophic Holocaust gave Jewish Independance a urgency .The Jews accepted a Partition with Jerusalem an International Zone in the Midst of the Arab Palestinian State .
2. Not "possible" but unavoidable, be it a good or bad sign.
(04.13.15)
I would venture to say, that it should be that way, just like personal traumas should fade with passage of time. It is called "healing". Unless we plan on raising deeply neurotic generation after generation of deeply scarred, deeply affected young people, we cannot expect otherwise. In any case, how do you propose we keep this "flame" strong and burning for thousands of years to come? Just like Hagaddah, it will be a national memory. This is why humanity as a whole has wars and will have them forever: we never "learn". We cannot otherwise....
3. not in a bad way: but it's just like the inquisition....
(04.13.15)
no one remembers that anymore. there are no special heritage trips to Spain and no one cares...after all it was over 500 years ago. so I don't really think that we should worry about it so much. PM Netanyahu will keep the memory fresh when it suits his needs. As for the rest of us...not to be insensitive or anything but really whats big deal.
4. A marker in the separation between Israelis & World Jewry
Jew-C ,   JewLandia (Israel)   (04.13.15)
We Israelis live the reality (good, less good & sometimes downright bad) of living in Israel...that is how we connect to our Jewishness. World Jewry live the reality of the memory of the holocaust over and over again...that is why everywhere there are Jews there is a holocaust memorial. It makes me sad to say but that's just the way of memory...it fades.
5. Holocaust survivors in Israel
Alexander Scheiner ,   Israel   (04.13.15)
it is wellknown that the israeli governemnt does not care about survivors of the holocaust. the israeli banks kept their money (not only the swiss banks!) and our extreme rightists do not care. With a social government it would be different. Without sacrifyig our security.
6. To erase the memory is to invite fresh ones...
Darin ,   New York   (04.13.15)
At no 2. I strongly disagree with you. It should not fade with the passage of time. With fading memory we invite insouciance and more murder of our people. If History as has taught us anything it is that Jew hatred is as prevalent today as it has been for thousands of year. If we make sure that the trauma of our loss remains fresh ALWAYS, we will be forever vigilant. I will NEVER avert my eyes. To do so, is to sully the memory of the men, women and children who were annihilated. You can keep your "healing", I will teach my children to be vigilant and to guard the memory of the murdered!
7. "Israelis feel memory of Holocaust fading away "
Jake ,   Israel   (04.13.15)
It's not just that they "feel" the memories are fading -- in fact they ARE fading, as the survivors pass from this world. In a few years, it will only be second hand knowledge -- repeating the testimony of those who endured and survived the horrors. It seems that there's an undertone of worry that the Jewish claim to Eretz Yisrael might suffer a blow to its legitimacy. That in turn, depends on the nature of a person's understanding of that claim. If the claim is based upon God's promise to His people, well, the claim remains the same. If, however, the claim is holocaust-based, i.e., as compensation or restitution for the holocaust, well, there could be a problem maintaining that claim's legitimacy if there's no one left to testify first hand.
8. #1 to #6: I do not disagree with you. That's why I keep MY
(04.15.15)
memories of present Jew-hate & murder very vivid in my thoughts. You are right, new "memories" will keep on appearing because the world has proven to us that we are "chosen" indeed. I think that for myself, the memory of the Maalot massacre and countless other acts of Arab barbarism against our people are enough to keep the vigil....I am not big on pseudo,New-Age'y "healing" so on, but yes: it'll be a memory like the Third Temple or the Inquisition.
9. The Holocaust
A JEW ,   UK   (04.22.15)
The Holocaust is a unique and dreadful occurence...It will never be forgotten. When next the commemoration apears, the hearts will awaken. I feel certain, unlike you who seem to disdain it..Sorry.
