1. END THE DRAFT!
Bill ,   Skokie U.S.A.   (04.29.15)
Why not remove criminal sanctions from everyone who refuses national Services? Why one specific part of the population and not others? Its not fair, equal, or just! People should volunteer on their own as a patriotic duty not because they have to do it, or go to jail! A professional army is more effective, and some people look to it as a career. let those who want to kill, oppress, protect, etc. do it and leave the rest out. Love they neighbor as thy self!
2. orthodoxy in the real world
Fred Willis ,   Chicago USA   (04.30.15)
I went to a very good Orthodox Cheder in Chicago. One of our melamdim was a young lawyer. He told us that if it was required by the court, he would not wear a Kippah in court. The reason is that respect for civil authority took precedence over non-Halachic practices such as wearing a Kippah. Secondly, we discussed Conscientious Objection and there is no halachic provision for Conscientious Objection. Thus, the Haredi have no leg in stand on with regards to their behavior. Even if they object to the country they are living on being called "Israel", they owe respect to Civil Aurhority and they owe it to take up arms, if necessary, to protect that authority. There is no way that they could get away with their behavior in the US. If the draft is ever activated in the US, they will have to register and serve if called OR go to jail and not for a short time.
3. While 37% secular parasites dodge the draft,
ADL   (04.29.15)
the author and authorities are only concerned about haredim dodging the draft.
4. wishfull thinking and immoral
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (04.29.15)
First I don't believe economic incentives are going to convince substantial numbers of haredim to enlist in the army because it goes against their belief that army duty is a waste of time better spent learning Tora. Secondly they consider the army as being a place that leads haredim astray. In addition , going to the army is a duty for every Israeli citizen and no segment of the population should be exempt as a bloc. Exemptions could be granted on a case by case basis with the aim of keeping enough yeshiva students to provide the country with Rabbies, dayanim and religious teachers as well as engineers, doctors and all essential professions. The exemptions would be granted with the condition that they provide a contractual service for the country in the line of their profession. Paying a segment of the population to go to the army is simply unjust and immoral for the vast majority .
