Ethiopians should be grateful for them being granted citizenship here in Israel.they can return to Ethiopia if they are not happy here .im sure they will be treated much worse then here in israel
4. I think they felt left out of the protests in the US
Bill ,   LA, USA   (05.03.15)
There is some discrimination in Israel, like everywhere. It's not a perfect society, even among Jewish sectors. But as in most cases, the police usually only beat up people when they are attacked or provoked. They are not going around beating up Africans unprovoked.
5. Yes, you certainly do

Hopefully, the incoming government will take steps to redress the wrongs. In the meantime, please do not get violent -- that does not help your cause. Neither does screwing up traffic.

Though there are I'm sure instances of prejudice against Ethiopians as there have been against Sephardim in the past. However, there is a big cultural difference between the Ethiopian immigrants even Israeli-born Ethiopians who grew up with Ethiopian born parents and thus learned traditional Ethiopian attitudes which contrast sharply with the West. I think that probably many times when Ethiopians ran into problems with Israeli bureaucracy they assumed it was prejudice rather than simply bureaucratic obstacles well known to other Israelis. I know of many American immigrants to Israel who complain regularly about Israeli bureaucracy. There is no racism involved. As anyone knows, bureaucracy has a frustrating quality about it because of the size of the organizations, the impersonal nature of the transactions and the lack of motivation of many clerks to be 'customer friendly'. These many complaints have gotten thru to governments in the West who now emphasize that people 'are entitled to timely and courteous service. and give information of how to file complaints. A famous early twentieth century sociologist said: Bureaucracy is its own worst enemy'. Maybe but it often becomes the unwitting 'adversary' of those it is intended to serve.

They do suffer discrimination as does everyone who comes to Israel. They are receiving it more, as a group. However, let us get some perspective here: the blacks in America were brought against their will to America and were slaves for a few hundred years before they were freed, and that after a very terrible war in the U.S. They are still treated as second class citizens. The Ethiopians were brought here as fellow Jews. They may receive lower paying jobs, worse conditions, but they are not slaves and despite that incident, they are not being lynched or having to suffer a fraction of what the blacks in America have suffered.. A lot of work still needs to be done, but let us not assume this is exactly the same situation as it is in America. We are not America.
11. Similarities of US race riots...
BUILD BABY BUILD!!!   (05.04.15)
which, if you investigate, has a long history of violence directed at blacks. why? I don't know. But, I do know, much of the US epic tale is one of a one parent home, a high drop out rate of high school students, fewer jobs and more temptation to drugs and illegal activities. Now, those similarities aren't addressed nor is the proper education rendered to make a difference nor have they ever been. Seems that with all of our overqualified PHD's and assorted specialists, we could 'reason together' and seek solutions instead of unnecessary deaths, continued mistrusts and, this tale without a happy ending for any one. It begins at home and is supported by an involved community, not the government.
12. If I may..Each new group of immigrants to America
BUILD BABY BUILD!!!   (05.04.15)
has been subjected to bigotry, prejudice and acceptance. "Irish need not apply" "restricted' communities to keep Jews away. Polish jokes, etc. etc. I think it's more "pull up the ladder after me." Assimilation isn't easy and, violence most certainly doesn't make any better for any one. "Come let us reason together."
