1. You do realize..
Cynthia Ann ,   Bible Belt   (05.08.15)
Congress does realize that we are not the only signatory to this deal, right? They know that if all the other signatories decide to drop their sanctions and the US does not, that it will be a largely symbolic gesture, right? They also realize that there is no option other than some military action that would slow down Iran's slow walk toward a nuclear weapon and that not agreeing to the deal would almost insure that Iran would have no other recourse BUT to move toward a nuclear weapon, right? Or are they SO fixated on destroying Obama that they are more than willing to plunge our country into yet another conflict, just to be able to say that Obama was wrong ? What puzzles me is why any Democrat voted for it?
2. #1 - Democrats voted for it for the same reason cotton is
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (05.08.15)
angry - the final bill is so watered down, it is meaningless. As long as Obama is POTUS there will never be a war with Iran for the very simple reason that while republicans shout and rant, they are completely unwilling to VOTE for war Notice that the US has been at war with ISIS for almost a year now and NO ONE in congress is willing to even submit a declaration of war to the congress, let alone vote on one. Notice that McCann and Graham just yell and shout, but neither is willing to put forth a bill (even though it is one of the parts of their job!). Fortunately the Iranians understand just how powerless the congress is and will not panic over this bill and negotiations will continue.
3. good, but not as good as it should be
CJK   (05.08.15)
congressional democrats have negated and given up their power under the us constitution to approve or disapprove this treaty which obama labels as an "executive deal." given the vote in the senate on this deal, it is obvious that the entire senate knows that this is a bad deal. yet the democrats continue to support obama. shame on them.

the major sanctions on iran, the ones that count, were put there by congress and by obama himself. furthermore, obama, kerry agree that iran is just two months away from a uclear weapon. biden has admitted that iran has enough enriched uranium for eight bombs. bombing iran's nuclear sites is much wiser that having a nuclear armed genocidal terror state. just look at what they do without nuclear bombs and have been doing for thirty five years.
5. #1 Cynthia Ann, it is a sham
Mark B. ,   Amsterdam / Holland   (05.08.15)
GOP knows that Obama has won regarding future US foreign policy on Iran. They are now pretending they haven’t been taken to the cleaners while Obama agrees to let them engage in such a charade. The case is that this bill does not include any provisions that would make the Obama administration accountable for Iranian compliance or altered behavior. By excluding any provisions from the bill that would ensure a stricter crackdown on their nuclear program, there is no real accountability to Obama reaching a final deal with Iran and to the process after that. Even more than that, by allowing the measure to be framed as a Congressional vote rather than a treaty ratification, it gives the president the ability to veto the eventual vote on the deal and for it survive with only a one-third plus one margin to prevent an override. Even better for Obama, when the final deal is accepted without a resolution of disapprovement by Congress, then it is bi-partisan and the GOP owns his policy.

an executive deal will not have the force of a treaty. it will just be an agreement between obama and iran. as soon as obama leaves office, the deal will be meaningless since it does not bind the next congress or the next president.
7. 5 the Iran deal is definitely a sham
CJK   (05.08.15)
any deal that is not ratified by the us senate is an agreement that binds only the specific signatories. it does bind future president, congress or administration. now, it is well known and understood that the reason obama will not ask the senate to ratify this deal as a treaty is because he knows that the deal is abysmal, is contrary to us national security interests, and the senate would not ratify this sham deal.
8. #4 - Actually the USA sanctions are worthless
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (05.08.15)
The sanctions that got Iran to the negotiations were the ones put in place by Russia and China. The bad news for Israel is the Russian, Chinese , Indian and most other sanctions will simply disappear by the end of 2015. Also by then, most of the sanctions still in place in the EU will simply be ignored. And the GREAT thing about that is it is completely impossible for the congress critters to do anything about the ending of non-USA sanctions without severely damaging USA companies. Note that this is the start of the election silly season so no USA congress critter will want to stop the flow of money from USA business so will not do anything when the non-USA sanctions disappear.
9. #6 - It does not make any difference
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (05.08.15)
Iran does not care what the USA does because Iran's trading partners are in Asia, Russia and Europe, not the USA. Once the non-USA sanctions are gone, after the rest of the world signs agreements with Iran, Iran will do just fine. If the congress critters try to punish the rest of the world for trading with Iran it will simply ignite a trade war that the USA will lose. US-centric readers have no idea that the USA is just a bit player in this whole thing.
10. After loser obama is gone, expect a strike on Iran.
BUILD BABY BUILD!!!   (05.08.15)
Iran is all talk as most Muslim nations, they figure words are cheap but, scary for a ball less obama. Can't wait for the next Republican President. obama sux.
11. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.08.15)
One can only declare war against nation-states. The last I checked, ISIS is not a nation-state. And only the president can request a declaration of war from the Congress. No member of Congress can suggest "Hey, let's declare war." Three strikes -- you're out!
12. 8
(05.08.15)
that is an outright lie.
13. OK!
Michel ,   Ashkelon   (05.22.15)
Democracy is still alive in the USA.
