1. What a nerve.
DOV ,   USA   (05.13.15)
After all the Israel has done for roman catholic church they turn around and stab us in the back.
2. same stuff fro the Vatican
rayS ,   NH,USA   (05.13.15)
I may be wrong but I seem to remember that the Vatican was the 1st to sign a Concordat with Nazi Germany . If so, this act is right in line with tradition.
3. If there'll ever be such a state it would want to destroy
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (05.13.15)
Vatican
4. Just goes to show you how truly comical -
barbara ,   Haifa   (05.13.15)
important people are. All this hullabaloo reminds me of a Charlie Chaplin satiric movie about German politics during WWII (putting it mildly)
5. Agreeing to tax exemption of the Catholic Church in Israel
ab   (05.13.15)
has paid off splendidly. More cringing required.
6.  Vatican guilt
ky   (05.13.15)
The EU is more or less the Catholic Union of states. The Vatican pulls its strings and Germany is the paymaster. Although not all Catholics were involved in the Holocaust a vast majority were and the Vatican has made strenuous attempts to sanitize itself . However its hands still bear the stain of Jewish blood despite the attempts made by the Vatican to wash it away. Once more their hands will be involved in the deaths of Jews and once more will they try to absolve themselves.
7. Well our Holy Rabbis say that ALL OF ISRAEL belongs to Jews
(05.13.15)
which is according to Torah. The Vatican's disappointment means absolutely nothing. They have no business interfering with the Jewish State.
8. Israel is a Jewish Country and it's the Rabbis who'll decide
(05.13.15)
The Vatican has nothing to do with Israel and it doesn't matter what they think or say about the Jewish land. Who cares if the pope is disappointed or the French PM is disappointed? It won't change the situation. The real disappointment is the Vatican who helped the Nazis kill Jews.
9. Thanks
Nigel Kersh ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (05.13.15)
Well, thank you, Catholic church. Oh, and thank you also for 2,000 years of anti-Semitism.
10. Vatican Recognition? The Romans were
Michael   (05.13.15)
the ones who changed the name from Judea to Palestine in 70 A.D. as punishment for the Bar Kochba revolt. How can they recognize a name that they created in the first place?
11. Dear friends...
Adler J   (05.13.15)
i have been reading all your comments, please, if any of you did not understood the article, please read this post, thank you. Shalom - The Vatican had welcomed the decision by the UN General Assembly in 2012 to recognize a Palestinian state. They have recognized the State of Palestine since it was given recognition by the United Nations. (according to the article recognition no official since 2012, -considering that Palestine just have an observer status, is anyhow a non oficcial status.) Even though officially the vatican treaty, has not be signed yet, which means is still " no official". If the treaty was finalized days before Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visits Pope Francis at the Vatican, then the treaty wasn't finalized on Wednesday. In case the treaty was signed before, anyhow it just concerns the religious activities of "The Vatican & christians in the West Bank which are not switched or related to muslims or jewish religious activities.
12. That is Israel's real enemy.

13. decision making
Michael ,   Haifa   (05.14.15)
All sovereign states have the right to determine their policies, vis-a-vis the Occupied Territories, irrespective of whether it "disappoints" Netanyahu or not
14. I don't agree with Vatican's act, but ......
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (05.14.15)
.... recognizing Palestinian State has been done by UNO and several other countries. That doesn't mean hostility toward Israel. Pope Francis braves anti semitism. He is a sincere friend of Jewish Rabbis and all Jewish people. And as a matter of fact, the mentioned State will only exist, in fact, through a secure and permanent peace's agreement with Israel. While it doesn't happen, never will be changed.
15. Lol
Arevs   (05.14.15)
You are first to cry if someone refuses to recognize Israel and you are first to whine if someone dares recognize Palestine Am Palestine chai!
16. Vatican doing what it does best
c   (05.14.15)
the catholic church has been persecuting jews for two thousand years.
17. Very Good! Now the Rightist "government" is on Edge ...
Z.Lackow ,   israel   (05.14.15)
18. Mr. Lol, I do want peace between
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (05.14.15)
....... Arab and Jewish people; having each one their State, through a good agreement. If it had been done in 1947, under UNO's decision, the conflict would have been erased long time ago.
19. Right, Luiz Haddad (18)
Guido ,   Milano Italy   (05.14.15)
The conflict could have been erased - as you say - many other times long long ago, in 1967 for instance after the six days war. Israel was ready to make huge sacrifices for peace inspite of its miraculous victory: But then the arab hero prototype Gamal jumped up in Khartoum and bombasted his three 'magnificent' NO!... No to talking with Israel, no to ever recognizing Israel, no to ever ever making peace with Israel. What a clown this Gamal Abdel Nasser, his attitudes bring more Goha to mind than Julius Cesar or Napoleon Bonaparte. I love and admire Sadat, his real wisdom, and I hope El-Sissi continues on his footsteps, not for the interest of Israel or anybody else, but for the sole interest and love of wonderful Egypt.
20. The End of Christianity?
emanon ,   USA   (05.14.15)
Doesn't the Pope realize the link between Hamas and the groups persecuting Christians, all non-Muslims really, in Africa and elsewhere? Not to mention my usual comment: What is being recognized? The arabs can't decide who is in charge, there is no government and there are no established borders. The Pope, in effect, is endorsing anarchy and persecution of his own people as well as anyone else the hard-line Muslim's decide to persecute. Sad. Real sad.
21. To Guido: "agreements that were never signed"...
Adler J   (05.16.15)
ciao, in fact, what you are saying is that Rome never recognized Israel before the Oslo Agreements:just then both agreed to established a Vatican Nunciature in Israel and an Israeli embassy in Rome.
22. To 17, 18, 19, 20
Adler J   (05.16.15)
Oslo Agreements were not Officially signed: Arafat signed the document in Jordan , While Rabin signed it during a flight between two cities or countries, anyhow it doesnt matter if Clinton was peace mediator or not then. And thats exactly the issue, because Palestinians and Israelis have never been really married (Oslo agreements)
