1. I guess we have
sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (06.05.15)
to agree to disagree. Just because you are Jewish doesn't mean you have to keep kosher. Freedom from religion and freedom of religion, apparently he is not religious so it should be his choice. Israel is a theocracy masquerading as a democracy. You can't have a religious minority control a society or some rabbi tell people what to eat.
2. Pork and poliicians
Jake ,   Jerusalem   (06.05.15)
Although Judaism views pork as treif and we do not eat pork, the punishment for a soldier who ate a pork sandwich is out of proportion with the sin. It was wrong for the IDF to punish a soldier so harshly and it was correct of the IDF to realize this and admit its mistake. But for this deranged political idiot to blab out of his mouth with out engaging his brain is worse. He dresses and acts like a responsible and respectable man, but if it is true what he said, he too to issue an apology. If the IDF, a non religious body, can be wrong and issue a public apology, so how much more, this ultra religious man who acts as if he knows the will of G-d and is totally mistaken should issue a public apology. He would be wise if he consulted with his rabbi before speaking out!
3. Deputy Defense Minister: IDF was wrong to cancel pork punish
David Milstein ,   Brisbane Australia   (06.05.15)
Religious totalitarianism does not become a democratic state
4. Ben Dahan
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.05.15)
Would he please cite the regulation that forbids soldiers to eat non-kosher food and how this particular regulation was applied in this specific case
5. What regulation?
Avi L.   (06.05.15)
Where's the regulation that rules what soldiers eat or drink? The only regulation is about what the kitchens distribute. When will there be "kashrut patrols" enforcing milk/meat separation? And imposing blessing before eating each kind of food? And forcing soldiers to put tefilim? What do we want to become? Some kind of taleban state? I'd like to see if they enforce the non mixing of threads of different materials in uniforms ... and if it's the same mashlihim sent by the rabanut ...
6. hypocrits
Dov ,   usa   (06.05.15)
There is no way you can keep kosher in the army. They bend the rules all the time. It should be the choice of the person who is serving his country.
7. THIS GUY THINKS HE'S god
stude ham   (06.05.15)
it's about these long bearded ones learned that the state of Israel must include all of the Jewish people and not just the yeshiva trained long beards.
8. The point is Adonai's FAVOR. Whether in uniform or not,
Rivkah   (06.05.15)
following Adonai's food laws is a protection for the entire IDF which wins so many battles against all odds (watch DVD "Against All Odds" to get a clue) that the US Military Academy at West Point, New York, will not teach Israeli tactics and battles and wars because the outcomes are so unlikely. The outcomes are the hand of Adonai. Eat pork or other unclean foods or foods dedicated to an idol like Allah and that hedge of protection from Adonai is put in jeopardy or lost. It is critically important to eat clean foods, clean to Adonai. It is also critically important for all IDF men to be circumcised in the flesh not just a phony pretend circumcision of the "heart". Actually, the Scriptures in the New and Old Covenant books require circumcision in the "heart" which is the head of the penis, not the emotions. This American IDF soldier jeopardized the entire IDF with careless eating as did his foolish relative who gave the pork to him. Idiots.
9. Kosher food
Sybil Shapiro ,   Haifa Israel   (06.05.15)
Ofcourse the army must serve Kosher food but I as an individual will eat exactly what I choose without any punishment This is a free society I am not bound by rules that do not harm anyone else
10. The IDF is wrong on cancelling the punishment.
Dan   (06.05.15)
If the IDF considers itself a Jewish army, his prison sentence was much too short for such a severe crime.
11. If the IDF is not a Jewish army
Moshe   (06.05.15)
what right do they have forcing Arabs out of Israel?
12. Primitive Superstitions Alive And Well
World Citizen ,   the world   (06.05.15)
Lobster, shrimp, crab legs and grilled pork ribs are great food. It is not what a man puts into his mouth that is dirty but what comes out of it. I bet this soldier leaves Israel the first chance he gets and never comes back.
13. IDF needs to strongly uphold kashrut
Julie ,   Israel   (06.06.15)
The IDF must continue to be the Jewish army of the one Jewish State. Kashrut is an important part of Judaism and parents and grandparents should respect this no matter their religious background. His grandmother should be ashamed of herself.
14. Anyone driving on a Shabbos should be PUNISHED as well!
(06.06.15)
A fine, little country we're making for ourselves..... Is that even worth risking one's life for, serving in the IDF? The frumme from Bnei Brak obviously can do that by themselves. Nobody will risk seeing pork at a base; actually: nobody will see a base... :-))!
15. IDF kitchens observe kashrut. Individual
A Jerusalemite ,   Jersalem, Israel   (06.06.15)
soldiers do not always do so... Those who want to keep kosher do, those who don't can find non-kosher foods everywhere in Israel. It is not difficult. This soldier brought a non-kosher sandwich from home. He did not eat it in the base kitchen nor in the dining room. He did not break any IDF rules. He did not deserve to be punished for this action.
16. # 9 Eat at your own peril.
(06.07.15)
But, before you do, consider that there's a reason, a good reason not to, pork burns the stomach and I know people who've had a colostomy from the burns from eating too much pork and have had most of their stomachs removed or wear a colostomy bag. And, that shellfish many crave is okay until the "red tide' comes in and then, that shell fish can kill you, literally. Do you folks really think the health laws are arbitrary? No, there is a good reasoning for each of the treif items.... So, have another serving but do so at your own rick. BTW, most of these incidents show up after a life time of abuses that could have been prevented. Ulcers, cronic indigestion, etc.
17. to no 12
Jennieb ,   Israel/US   (06.09.15)
This soldgier is lucky to live in the only Democracy in the ME and serve his country...In this case, your post indicates your own lack of factual truth on Kosher dietary Laws in the IDF...And if you knew just some basics of the Jewish dietary laws, you wouldn't write this primitive remark...
