1. Not until Syria gets involved in Israel?!
(06.13.15)
2. Very true, Guy
Avi ,   Israel   (06.13.15)
Many thanks for your well argumented article. We shall never fight along with them against any of them, for they are exceedingly treacherous people.
3. One of very few Ynet articles that I agree with
David ,   Australia   (06.13.15)
Expecting loyalty is a mistake and any involvement Israel is painted as the demon. If it's saving lives of Syrian civilians it's painted as healing ISIS fighters. Israel should choose it's new allies catefully and always as though it will be temporary
4. 100% in agreement...The Arabs should be left to their own
Al   (06.13.15)
devices. Its not our problem. Let Darwin do his magic. We will end up dealing with the remnants. We do not have to cultivate our enemies. We have no friends, we only have each other.
5. Would tend to agree with the author on this one.
JVC ,   LA, USA   (06.13.15)
6. Intervention in Syria
Walid ,   Spain   (06.13.15)
I strongly believe the writer is wrong. The fact you have been trying to disconnect from what is going on around you and hide in your cosy shell all these years was the reason why Hezbollah mushroomed and ISIS came to life. You have all the military power in the world to eliminate both these evils and destroy them before they come knocking at your door. I warned about this several times in previous comments on this site but no one listens. Come they will and then it will be too late because you will be fighting on your own turf. Now is the time to be bold and to strike, a preventive strike to eliminate these two cancerous evils from the whole region. You will find allies that will support you including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the Gulf States. There is no time for you to sit and wait until you are attacked. By that time ISIS would have grown more and more daring and more dangerous. It is time for Israel as the super power in the region to take the initiative and clean the mess and impose a peace with all their neighbours. And only then you will be able to contain Iran and stop it from terrorizing the Middle East and most of all, destroy their dream of building an atomic bomb.
7. They will attack us anyhow ! How
DT ,   TA Israel   (06.13.15)
stupid can you possibly be ? Obviously "limitless"
8. So it's their own fault - case closed !??
N ,   N   (06.13.15)
As they "were among the central pillars of Bashar Assad's evil regime,..." It's hardly a secret that the Assad clan used non-Sunni minorities to legitimize their rule. But to unquestioningly infer that so it is okay that they are persecuted now by ISIS is weird.
9. I agree, but there is an alternative argument
James ,   UK   (06.13.15)
Some people could have made the same argument about not helping Jews in the 40's. "We are not Jewish, so why get involved, we'll only become targets of the Germans if we do" It's a tough decision, but if literally tens of thousands of Druze are being slaughtered, can Israel really sit back and do nothing?
10. Like in Iraq.Arabs cheered US Soldiers and once Saddam was
Alan ,   SA   (06.13.15)
defeated, the same Arabs turned on the US soldiers. Now again today Iraq wants US Soldiers to pull their ISIS Chestnuts out of the fire. Likewise do not fall for this Druze story Israeli Druzim live and work in Israel so we expect them to take part in Israel defence.... they must understand that Druzim across the border are completely diffderent position. If IDF Druzim want to go fight for their brothers as independents ,....OK but Israel must keep out of Syrian stories So its an excellent article
11. I often disagree with Guy, but not this time.
David ,   Hartford USA   (06.13.15)
No reason for Israeli blood to flow in an Arab war. If the Druze need help, let them ask their Muslim neighbors- there are enough of them. True, ISIL and ilk will one day aim their guns and knives at Israel. On that day, the world will know that Israel has had enough Muslim lunacy and will bomb much of Syria into the stone age. If the only way to 'save' the Mideast is to destroy much of it, so be it.
12. #9 If you're so considered about the Druze being slaughtered
A ,   Belgium   (06.13.15)
(you obviously aren't), why not petition your government to help them instead of Israel? I don't think the U.K. will boycott itself or recall it's own ambassador from itself in protest if it gets involved in a war it shouldn't, nor Israel, get involved in. And next time Boko Harum kidnaps hundreds of Christian girls to be used as sex slaves, maybe the U.K. should do something to help them too.
13. usually don't agree w/ Mr Bechor - but this time, he's on ..
Rafi ,   US   (06.14.15)
.. the money. Good article.
14. #6 Walid. Israel should not be involved
simon marriott ,   Haifa Israel   (06.14.15)
in Syria unless it is attacked. True, Israel is a powerful nation but this is not a war that involves this state. What is it that you want Israel to? Whose side are they supposed to be on. Who are they meant to save, who to kill? From what I understand the Druze in Syria are no friends of Israel, and Israel is expected to go and save them? I honestly don't believe for one moment that Turkey, Saudia Arabia or any other country for that matter is going to thank or support Israel in such an action. The Middle East is a complete mess it is not up to Israel to be the of this region USA of this region.
15. Intervention in Syria
Walid ,   Spain   (06.14.15)
Simon, it is no longer a matter of saving the Druz, but saving the whole region from total anarchy and chaos. Yes, you can say why Israel should bother? Let Arabs and Moslems kill each other. They hate us. That is no longer an option. Soon this chaos will decend on Israel like an avalanch and you will not be able to stop it. And then the gates of hell willl open up. Dont under estimate what is happening around you.
16. #15 Walid, I don't under estimate
simon marriott ,   Haifa Israel   (06.15.15)
what is happening around us. It is terrible and I find it hard to believe that people want to kill each other in this way. I hope for the sake of all in the region that peace will come and that one day I will be able to drive freely to anywhere in the Middle East and enjoy Arab hospitality, and that Arabs will be able to visit Israel. Israel does care what is happening but can you imagine the out cry if Israel were to invade Syria to bring peace!
17. Intervention in Syria
Walid ,   Spain   (06.15.15)
Simon, I was born in Haifa near the Bahai temple and I played with Jewish boys and shared my desk at school with them as well as my lunch sandwiches as they also did. Yes it would be wonderful if all this comes back and one day I can visit the house in Abbas street where I grew up and have not seen since 1948. But in the meantime, there are difficult choices to make to bring about a fair and just peace in the Middle East. We need couragous people.
18. Not possible
Sidney ,   California   (06.15.15)
The Druse of Israel are a loyal component of Israeli society. Their coreligionists may be facing an existential threat. What would Israel do if Jews across the border faced an existential threat? If Israel fails to act to protect the Druse in Syria, it will be telling the world that only Jews can ever be full citizens of Israel whatever they do. Israel must act despite all the good arguments against doing so.
19. Walid ,those days of sandwich sharing were wonderful but
Alan ,   SA   (06.15.15)
fate of SYRIAN Druzim is not Israel business. Those Syrian Druzim gave us some baaaaad guys. You know who they are..They should have thought about what could happen to them before today. I know they always showed poisonous hatred of Israel . So tough tough
20. the answerto the problem
