I, retired Maj. Reuven Bar-On (IDF Ser. No. 968282), would disobey any and all orders to destroy Jewish houses in and evacuate Jews from any part of the Jewish State in the Land of Israel; and I strongly encourage all Jews serving in the security forces – including Police, Border Patrol, IDF and “Shabak” – to do the same. To disobey such an immoral order is both your legal right, and moral obligation, according to Israeli military and civilian law since 1957. In addition to the 1956 incident in Kfar Kassm, the establishment of this law was influenced by the 1945-1946 Nuremberg Trials, when high ranking Nazi, Gestapo, SS and Wehrmacht officers claimed: “I was only following orders.” In the Israel’s Manual on the Rules of Warfare (2006) it states: “Under Israeli law, a soldier is required not to carry out [i.e., obligated to disobey] an unlawful and immoral order.”
