1. No one excels at hatred more than the Left
Jake   (08.04.15)
More than 80 million people were murdered by the Left, all in the name of impossible "equality" and assuming the mantle of victimhood. The Leftist ideologoues were privileged wealthy pampered elites who had no qualms about smashing all of those eggs in order to make their burnt "omelette". The Leftist media has not changed its tack one iota. It's the same old story: hatred, cynicism, hypocrisy, and a twisting and mangling of the facts. Add to that a sense of desperation, knowing that public opinion is not on their side.
2. "perhaps the demographic changes as well"
Jake   (08.04.15)
What Barnea is trying to say, in thinly veiled language, is that he laments over the fact that he feels increasingly like an endangered species as the power shifts away from the elite leftist affluent uber-secular Ashkenazi "veterans" to the Mizrachi and the traditional majority. He talks about the need to "equip democracy with tools", but what he fears more than anything else is the rule of the majoriy.
3. An excellent, sober observation
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (08.04.15)
It is commonplace to label any Jewish comentator who has the audacity to utter a single word of criticism against the actions of the extremist right as 'self-hating Jews'. And if such critics happen to be non-Jewish then they are dubbed 'antisemitic'. If anything,, the opposite is the case. The extremist right are the self-hating Jews and give succour to the antisemites. A country built on hatred of others is ittle more than a house of cards which may tumble at any moment.
4. exaggerated
geroge   (08.04.15)
while extreme attacks against innocent 3 arabs are wrong and illogical, they are few given the general arab provocation. Barnea and sima kadmon are subjugated jews who identify with the enemy stockholm syndrome. They would prefer that 1 million jewish babies have their skulls bashed in as kuntar did. As a jew I ask how could isrfaelis become like barnea kadmon, levy, verter and marcus. These are disturbed p eople withnoself regard and no sense of soverignty.
5. Hate crimes commited by Arabs & leftists against Israel
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.04.15)
Whenever a crime appears to be committed against "Palestinians", the leftist media immediately blames "Jewish terrorists". Very often, it turns out these crimes are committed by Arabs and leftists in order to smear patriotic Jews. The worst hate crimes are committed by Arabs and leftists against Israelis. These crimes likely outnumber crimes committed by misguided Israeli patriots by 100 to 1.
6. Media exaggeration
Andy ,   Israel   (08.04.15)
The headline of this article is another exaple of media histeria. This country is not full of hate and the country certainly isn't in its death throws. The country is thriving like never before and the fact that thousands come out to condemn these incidents proves we have not lost our moral compass
7. Bertram #3, you, like this author, offer only hysteria
Jake   (08.05.15)
What "country built on hatred of others" could you possibly be talking about? That would apply not to Israel but to the region surrounding Israel, where terrorists give their names to streets, parks, and squares, and where blood is cheap and is shed on a daily basis. Extreme leftist Israelis simply cannot admit that Jewish terrorism is an extremely rare phenomenon of a tiny minority, and is utterly and condemned rejected by the vast majority of the Israeli Jewish public, including the "usual suspects: the governing coalition, the "settlers", the national-religious, the Haredim, etc. Those extreme leftists who would attempt to lay blame for these highly unusual crimes at the doorstep of the wider Israeli public are indeed self-hating Jews, slanderers, and aiders and abettors of the enemies of the Jewish people.
8. The Writer as a.Housepainter
Joe ,   Israel   (08.04.15)
Instead of using his pen like a thin paintbrush, as an artist, Barnea uses the brush of a housepainter, smearing one and all.
9. "Israel is not a state like all other states."
Moshe ,   Israel   (08.04.15)
And the author continues "That's how we are judged by others; that's how we should judge ourselves." Here he joins Israel's many critics and foes, who claim that when this country defend itself, it must do it with one hand (or more) tied, because it is "the light for the nations", a patronizing sentence which constitutes, among other, a reason for anti-Semitism.
10. Everyone's fault but mine
Elihu ,   Efrat, Israel   (08.04.15)
The "forefathers'" dream was to have a "normal" state with criminals, prostitutes, etc ... and that is the ideal? Seriously? The _true_ forefathers' (Abraham and his progeny, Moses, Jeremiah, Amos, etc.) had a different vision for this land and this People - a vision upon is based the most cherished elements of civil society of the Western world. It is true that some on the religious Right have chosen to read Leviticus in isolation from other books in Hebrew Scripture - but the secular Left has also distorted this vision - robbing it of its power. The notion that every single human being comes from the same parents and that every human life is absolutely holy because it comes from God is a revolution wrought by none other than Hebrew Scripture. It's all very well to try and tar the settlement movement and the religious with a horrible murder that has yet to be solved- but, frankly, pointing in such a un-nuanced way makes others wonder just how the author draws the line between legitimate criticism and incitement - Indeed a reader might suspect that the author is exploiting a heinous crime to fuel his own prejudices and further his own political agenda. Let's catch the criminals who did this and have them stand trial - and then we can have a more productive and meaningful conversation about how to repair society at large.
11. Indeed: Left's hatred of LOSING POWER! That's it!
(08.04.15)
12. HEED
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (08.04.15)
When Politicians and especially Religious Leaders at the top seek to fan flames of hatred it undermines their own societies because by almost condoning hatred as a political expedient and hatred is almost accepted as the norm! We have said time and time again to the PA....STOP institutional incitement against Jews and Israel because it WILL BACKFIRE and undermine our own Palestinian character and respect for law and order The message is just as relevant to Israel
13. The Left indeed are killing Israel's existence.
Sandy   (08.04.15)
Hatred of Left towards haredim and religious Jews in general is just like the European anti-Semites. Freedom of expression' is only for them. Those who wanted to protest the illegal, immoral anti-Torah parade were violently arrested. Is this freedom of expression? Barbarous police arresting Jews without proof for an arson that Arabs did is 'love', huh? Ynet writers are full of crap.
14. The Education Min. is 100% responsible for Shira's death.
Sandy   (08.04.15)
Had Shlissel not received his education in these violent secular lawless schools, Shira would still be alive.
15. Rabbi Chaim Brisker zt"l said it well and so very true:
Brisker   (08.04.15)
"One who only talks about 'ahavat Yisrael' (love of... and hatred that...) HATES the Rebono Shel Olam (G-d), HATES the Torah and HATES a religious Jew." Nahum Barnea and other Op-eds and the Left in general are perfect examples of how correct and brilliant our Rabbis are.
16. If the foundation of Israel's existence if immoralty
Ralph   (08.04.15)
let hatred kill it.
17. Immorality causes murder, as simple as that.
(08.04.15)
18. Barnea is actually lamenting the passing
Shachar ,   Eilat   (08.05.15)
of his parents generation. In many ways I also lament their passing, they were an extraordinary generation ( both right and left, Ashkenazi and Mizrahi). Now we have been left with some frightening mediocrity, but that is the way of the world. What should have been done won't help us any longer....we are now just like them.
19. #7:You must know, that Bertram relishes in his own
(08.06.15)
righteousness. People like that have an easy life, since this dump we all live in is always full of terrible and imperfect individuals, that can irk one's indignation and prompt lofty admonitions. It's the main cause of "leftism". To quote Monty Python: Life is full of shit when you look at it...
