1. Casualty Statistics
MadDad ,   Johannesburg RSA   (08.07.15)
I find the accounting of the casualties from this war completely unfathomable. I am not sure what the source of these are - but the numbers presented sure do not add up in any way. I'll bet the UN is involved in this. 1. At the end of last year the figure was 220 000. Have there been very few casualties this year? I find this impossible to believe. 2. The number of women and children killed is put at 22 000. This means that there is approximately a ratio of 1 civilian killed for every 100 fighters. Compare this to the coalition statistics for the Gaza, Iraq and Afghanistan wars (e.g. Protective Edge) where a 1 to 1 ratio was considered amazing. Thus we can conclude that the Syrian Government and the Jihadi groups fighting each other must be: a. ensuring the battlefield is clear of civilians b. precise targeting with precision munitions. c. not using human shields to achieve this spectacular ratio. This I find completely unbelievable. Guess no one cares.
