people have the right to die, if they so wish. no state should have the right to keep a person alive against his wish. in this particular instance, the issue is one of politics. the man is on hungar strike in an attempt to force the state to release him from prison. the fact that he refuses to eat as a political gesture, does not negate the fact that it is his choice to die. the man's choice to refuse food must be carefully documented. doctors must explain to him what the exact consequences are of a hunger strike. if he still refuses to eat, he has the right to die.

When Israel has no evidence to prove Palestinians guilty of a crime, they keep them in prison without a trial. During Apartheid, SA had a notorious law which enabled them to keep non Whites in prison for 90 days without a trial. Israel's treatment of Palestinians is far worse. They are kept in prison for years without a trial, many for 5 years or longer.

these doctors are using a logic so perverse as to make them complicit in another kind of crime... namely, encouraging the premature death of human beings, otherwise known as euthanasia.
