Those of us who have children with special needs feel a solidarity and identity with one another -- Jew, Arab, secular, haredi, left or right wingers. Our priorities are to stand with the dedicated staff and professionals and see to it that our children get what they need from the system. This generates togetherness and a kind of unity. Because we are part of the Israeli education system, we feel a type of Israeli identity. Those with children in hospitals would have the same type of sense of purpose.
