The chief rabinnate (The Jewish Vatican) is nothing more then political institution invited by the state of Israel. There is no chief rabbi in Judaism.
The threats against a rabbi who espouses a more liberal Jewish attitude toward conversions shows the depths of hatred to which ultra-Orthodox Judaism has sunk. This kind of reaction to anyone who differs with their narrow, radical interpretation of Judaism is one of the reasons many young Jews see Judaism as a racist, bigoted, anachronistic and misogynistic faith. The only answer for Israel is to separate Church and state and open Judaism to pluralism and bring it into the 21st century. .
While so many people are trying this horrible problem, they keep on flying ""home"" to Israel through the 'Law of Return'. An out-dated, destructive law to Israel's Jewish continuity. I fled from assimilation in chutz la'aretz.. only to arrive in Israel and see thousands of goyim being legally imported every year. Many hiloni Jews don't mind marrying a 'nice, non-Jewish, sweet Russian girl'.
