Jews have assimilated among non-Jews for millennia... Being that you suggest it as a good alternative, your family obviously did not, and you have no idea what you are talking about As for the "ethics" you refer to... Do you realise that the majority of the laws and human rights observed by modern western society today have their origin in the Torah? Leave Judaism and you or perhaps your kids will eventually just answer to a different authority... adhere to different beliefs, which won't necessarily make you happier. From what this article says about the Economic situation in Hawaii, it doesn't sound like there is much of a future there...
