The comments themselves were no worse than the antisemitic ones made by Sir Gerald Kaufman, 'father' of the House of Commons and veteran Manchester Gorton/Levenshulme M.P.....there was a mild apology from Leader of the Labour Party (and ex-Marxist activist) Jeremy Corby and the leader of the House of Commons refused to censure him for his comments. In the same week in Manchester, skullcap wearing Jews were beaten to a pulp by two drunken thugs outside a tram station. Despite Greater Manchester Police recording the attack as a hate crime, the prefixing Judge in the trial said that a number of what he termed 'throwaway' antisemitic comments made by the thugs did not amount to a racist attack & the two thugs were given very low sentences?
