Anthropologists are the worst, although, given their field of expertise, they SHOULD be the most objective. I've stopped supporting my Alma Mater (a small and respected women's college) because they gave tenure to an overtly anti-semitic professor of anthropology.

The American(that's debatable) Anthropological Assn. voted for the boycott because Israeli academic institutions have much more brainpower than the AAA. The Israeli institutions are out in front and pulling away, and that makes the AAA look bad. So in order to save face, the AAA jumped on the "we hate Israel too" popularity bandwagon. The fact that they actually think their hate will make up for a their lack of brainwaves is laughable, and tells us everything we need to know about the "distinguished" AAA.

Economically the effects may be small now but the real strength of the movement is in who is joining. If the academic world increasingly joins BDS you will see a growing educated elite that will distance itself from a state that uses apartheid to control the Palestinian people. The educated elite vote to elect representatives that reflect their views. All the Jewish money in the world can't control the elections if the people are mad. The educated alsl spend money and effect the way other lower classes spend their money. Both these groups can vote through their pocketbooks. The economic costs to Israel will increase over time. Israelis have to make some hard choices. The government you have voted into power is painting all of you into a corner. Come to your senses before it is too late. Do the right thing.
