I was at the scene - about 150 metres away - and am very grateful that security forces arrived quickly and protected the Arab workers and passers-by in the area from the reactions of the crowd. Our reactions need to be more measured than those I witnessed this morning. I was ashamed at the glee and hysteria -- as well as the picture-taking mania -- that was displayed by many onlookers this morning.

This is how I calculated the shots I heard: I heard two bursts of automatic gun fire, which were confirmed by the two adult males I was standing beside. The first burst was long and nourished. It would have been about 12-15 bullets, in the characteristic automatic weapon pattern. The second burst was shorter, only 5-8 bullets fired, as far as I can remember. My two companions, who like me have done their military service here, agree with my approximate count: between 20 and 30 bullets fired from an automatic weapon. I still maintain that the two young teenagers could have been seized physically and stopped without having to resort to shooting them.
