I think we need to draw a line in the sand here. Israel has the best record on women's rights for both Jewish and Arab women than any other country in the ME by far. If these so-called feminist activists, scholars, teachers, and public intellectuals were not completely misguided and uninformed this vote would have had a radically different outcome. To cite Israel as a perpetrator if sexual and gender-based violence against Palestinians is a ludicrous falsehood. Israel record on human rights, women's rights, and gay rights outshine those of most Western nations and every Muslim nation. These rights do not exist in virtually every other nation in the Middle East, where women are frequently barred from academic institutions, the workforce, and even from appearing in public when not in the presence of their fathers or husbands. Women are chattel in Arab lands, often abused, mutilated, or the victims of the honor killings. Gays are persecuted, tortured, imprisoned, and murdered. The NWSA, were its members truly seekers of knowledge, should have undertaken a fact-finding mission to Israel and the Palestinian territories to learn the truth, rather than jumping on the bandwagon of ignorant incitement and anti-Israel bias.
