Zola   (01.21.16)
in human history there has been huge Barbarism and the fanatic fundamentalists are still activating their destructive impulses.
4. Reply #1 ever heard of free thinking
Miri   (01.21.16)
That's the thing with some religious people they feel the need to force , judge and slander others according to their religious beliefs. As much as you are free to believe what you want we are also free not to believe and to live our lives accordingly. Although your case clearly proves religion belongs in the dark ages and has no place in a modern democratic society. of over 6,000 Gods people have invented naturally yours is the real one. you should check out the tooth fairy you`ed love it.
5. Nobody needs tshuva. You want it do it yourself.

6. Never heard of this guy
Heshy ,   Brooklyn ny   (01.21.16)
Never heard of this guy maybe because I'm an american Jew. But his rantings are silly. Here on America the Jews who are what you israelis call chareidim are growing very fast while Jews like this israeli professor are intermarrying or not marrying or becoming gay. In the last ten years the change is scary. So many young secular jews are actually not halachikly Jews as there mothers are not jewish. There is no future for reform or conservative heretical movements. Things are changing very fast. In 12 years most Jews will wear black hats. Mark my words. Things look good. The vast majority of Israelis never heard or saw the size of yeshivas in America. And they are growing very fast. In Brooklyn New York there are hundreds of busses just in one area alone transporting children to yeshivas. This is the future of Judaism not some old professor fantasizing history.
7.  A Jewish state
ky   (01.21.16)
is not the place for Professor Malkin. I would not live in any state that declared itself to be for one religion although I am a Jew. Every nation on this Earth is made up of varied nationalities and religions and it can only be right that states are defined as secular so as to give equal justice to all its citizens
8. To No. 6.
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (01.21.16)
I can distantly recall the odd occasion during my life when I have wondered whether it might be a good idea to become 'religious'. However, your post serves a purpose since it reminds me why I have chosen to remain 'secular'. Shame on those who have perpetrated this act - a defilement of the spirit of the Jewish people.
9. stupid people make loud noises
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (01.21.16)
Like an empty garbage can, those who wrote these words convince no one and think they are so smart. . Idiots....
10. To no.4 and no.6
Heshy ,   Brooklyn new york   (01.21.16)
Unfortunately you have been raised without a proper true Torah education and by choosing wrong it's like walking at the edge of a river with your eyes closed in the middle of the night. We see a whole generation of young Jews falling away by the hundreds of thousands. Among reform american jews intermarriage is 80 per cent. The secular leaders or famous secular jews like the former bnei brith leader Abe Foxman as well secular jewish singer Barbara Streisand have a sons that are homosexuals. They will not see grandchildren. What hitler couldn't destroy the secular jews finished. The silent holocaust is continuing among all secular jewish families except where some of their children return to Torah. It's very sad. I recall on one of my visits how each secular older Jew I met would tell me how their children are far removed from jewish values and have no interest in marriage. One secular Russian jewish taxi driver told me that out of his three kids only one who became a baal tsuvah has seven kids. He told me he helps him with the large family. I explained how lucky he is to have such a son. First he has grandkids and the age of this old mans other kids was pretty unlikely they will marry and have kids. Second after you leave this world you will be rewarded for having such a good son. He lit up and with tears streaming down his eyes he thanked me for opening up his eyes what a lucky man he was. I gave him 200 dollars as a tip. I myself was so inspired. There is nothing as powerful as Torah study.
11. There are a number of country with 100% same religion
Someone   (01.21.16)
There are dozens getting very close. Mostly Christian and Muslims. You seem to be either ignorant or a self hater. One rule for Jews and another for everyone else is not the way to live. Shame on you. Secular states such as many that exist do not give equal justice to all its citizens. WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE IN? Political Correctness (basically restricting freedom of speech and expression) Moral Relativism/Multiculturalism (denies the FACT that cultures who oppress women and religious minorities, kill homosexuals.... are not on the same level as Western "Supposed" morals, and this whole idea goes against Western Culture itself). Sadly not sure if the West is moral at all anymore.
12. seculars and education
iselin ,   oslo   (01.21.16)
The more educated a person is, the more likely that s/he will question religion and opt out of beliefs. Religion is the realm of superstition and fantasy. No wonder that the black hats keep their believers segregated from the rest of the world and don't stray far from religious texts in their religious schools. The less experience and knowledge of the real world you have, the easier it is to swallow fundamentalism whole.
13.  #11 &12
ky   (01.21.16)
I know its a waste of time arguing with politically ignorant minds and 5000 year old expalantions of the world . To put it briefly Israel desperately needs balance and common sense if it is to survive , unfortunately it is something in which you are both completely lacking
14. should be #6 & 11.
(01.21.16)
#12 sorry agreed your post
15. KY - so more nonsense - I am an atheist nice try
Someone   (01.25.16)
Basically you have no rebuttal and have been shown to be ignorant on FACTS. read 11 again even Wiki proves your claims wrong and there are a number of majority religion countries. Rights have nothing to do with secular. The West is mostly secular and their rights are being taken away as we speak. There is no freedom of speech, religion, protection of minorities (Jews for example),..... You seem more interested in attacking religion rather than focus on the issue at hand. There are extremists in ALL societies but the large majority of Israeli Jews continuously condemn any violence against civilians. Funny how Israel is safer than the secular world. Try walking around European cities as a 8 years old girl in the middle of the night and see what happens. You can still do this in Israel. Do you support a Muslim Palestinian state? assume not as it goes against your post. Take Bethlehem before Oslo and Palestinians control it was 60% Christian, now its around 20%. Sounds like a moderate version of ISIS. If you look at the Supreme Court they do all the can to ignore Jewish laws. Israel is the Jewish nation state where nearly 25% of the population are not Jewish with equal rights.
