Most spouses of public figures in government are not paid but are expected to work. US military spouses are rebelling against volunteer work in this era, being unwilling to work outside their homes for nothing. Not only do the spouses of government officials and military senior officers work for nothing, they are insulted and mistreated until they have had enough and quit or separate or divorce. I withdrew from the US military social scene in the 1980's after enduring the unendurable for many years which included propositions by drunk senior officers at picnics. One idiot followed me all over a field in San Diego at a Navy Medical Department picnic, doing a dirty dance and saying, "I just have to have you." My husband being a junior officer could do nothing and the people who were senior to the drunk did nothing to stop the idiot. I was carrying a foster child in my arms who was crying because she had just suffered the loss of her father and had watched her mother raped and beaten up so badly the grandmother had to take in the grandchild and raise her since the mother was no longer able to cope. I never went to another US Navy picnic and some years later I stopped socializing at all with my husband's Navy associates and sent him to parties and social functions alone. My heart was broken, just as Sonia's heart was probably broken, and she just couldn't take the abuse of her dignity at social functions anymore.

as for lapid, don't get fooled by his tougher stancee against the un lately. lapid is recycled olmert,a total flop and jailbird, and would do what herog offered as that was his brainwashing as a non combat journalist-they are all the same-haber, sarid, oren, lapid, olmert, yechaimovitch, gal on-talk big and do no combat for the state .

It is never easy to embark on a journey that our loved ones do not approve of. Peres knew that he wanted to be President, even though everyone was sure he was too old, and he stood by his decision. He proved all the know-it-alls wrong and lived out his full tenure (and more!). You can disagree with his politics, but he is a great man and a living example of how to age gracefully and remain useful until the end of one's life. Chapeau!!!

It may be touching to hear an old man talk about his life. But Peres is a self important fool who has harmed Israel immensely. Israel is still paying dearly for Peres' vain attempts to make history by endangering Israel and empowering our mortal "Palestinian" foes. Countless Israelis, who are far better than Peres, have been murdered and maimed due to his glory seeking.
