1. Double standard.
me   (07.18.16)
WHY on earth is someone who is thoroughly discriminated by conventional religion, trying to fit into the mold of this archaic system.
Face it dude: They dont want you, they dont respect you, they look down on you, and that wont change.
Choose to love yourself instead and find a spiritual path that fits your reality.
Otherwise dont complain "it's hard" - your choice is clearly one of self-torture.
2. A Farce

Why is making a farce of Judaism newsworthy?
3. Leviticus & Gay Sex
Puck ,   Vancouver   (07.18.16)
Great article. One statement troubles me: Reb Becky says, "I usually say that the prohibition on gay male sex can be found in Leviticus . . ."

We need to take a closer look at the texts to verify if the text itself actually condemns gay sex:
Lev: 18:22: הוא תועבה ,אשה משכבי תשכב לא זכר ואת Lev: 18:22
Standard Translation: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind; it is abomination.
Problem: Mishkevai Isha literally translates as "the lyings of a woman"

Lev: 20:13: בם דמיהם יומתו מות שניהם עשו תועבה אשה משכבי זכר את ישכב אשר ואיש Lev: 20:13
Standard Translation: And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Problem: Mishkevai Isha literally translates as "the lyings of a woman"

In other words Men are forbidden to lie with a man the way a woman lies (with a man). The way a woman has been lying with a man from Eve to the time this law was announced during the 40 years of wandering has been either that of wife, concubine, prostitute, temple prostitute (i.e. officiant at a fertility rite). In other words, the woman has been subservient to the will of the man.

Further supporting this reading is the fact that previous verses in this chapter list those whose nakedness a man may not uncover, that is, take the initiative in sex. They include father, mother, father's other wives, father's brother, daughter, sister, son's wife, and by inference son himself, and neighbour's wife. Notably absent in the list is mother's brother, father's wives brothers, female or male cousins, and neighbour. In law, when naming a category as forbidden, what is not named within that category is permissible, whereas, in what is named as permissible in a category, only those things so named are allowable. As males within the category of uncles on the mother et. al side are not named as forbidden, lying with them is permissible, as is female and male cousins, and as is the neighbour.

To then say that Torah forbids gay male sex is to misread Torah, and as Rabbis are supposed to be fluent in Hebrew, considering that they routinely study every nuance of word, they willfully misrepresent Torah when they interpret Lev 18:22 & 20:13 to read that these passages forbid gay sex. To repeat, what these passages only forbid is for a man to socio-sexually treat another man as he treats a woman, which is as someone who must be submissive to his sexual demands.

Thank you.

4. This person lives in a Sci-Fi movie. Not a very good one.

6. State why Facebook comments are denied on LGBTQ issues.
Roberto Feldmann ,   Santiago de Chile.   (07.18.16)
I may suggest something: Why not stating the reason that on this one topic ynetnews withdraws the right to comment via Facebook, and allows it only via comments it can censor? Why not being transparent and explicit about the fact "We reserve the right to determine the criteria for what constitutes a hateful or homophobic comment" and have that stand stated so clearly at the end of articles dealing with the LGBTQ community?

And finally, how is it that Jew-haters abuse us in comments, depicting Israel as a "nazi" regime, anti-Semites abuse us routinely denying, belittling the Shoah, laud the Iranian regime calling to destroy Israel, defending terrorists like Hezballah's Nasrallah or Hamas' Haniyeh, or throw at us every anti-Semitic lie demonizing and delegitimizing Israel, and spreading viscious anti-Semitic libels both old and new, there is no "this is something we will not allow" on your part? Why is your sensitivity, compassion and empathy strong only towards one community within our peoplehood and non-existent regarding our entire community of Israelis and Jews?
7. Anything and everything goes!
Shua Cohen ,   Israel/US   (07.20.16)
The following line sums up the gist of Becky's lengthy discourse: " I still have my period, and I don’t see that as a sign of femininity." And if anyone dares to challenge this oxymoron as a sign of serious biological/psychological confusion...well heaven forbid. The modern zeitgeist will declare the challenger to be a cruel, intolerant bigot, guilty of a gross, assaultive microaggression.! Furthermore, anyone who does not accept Becky's confusion as "normative," and her desperate attempt to shoe-horn her self-actualization into the box labelled "Judaism," risks her self-important snub: "at that moment, the conversation ends." In essence, it's not biololgy's way...not Torah's way...not halacha's way...but her way or the highway. She wants nothing to do with you. So much for ahavas Yisrael.

P.S. I think that tomorrow, rather than identifying as a white, Jewish male (my birth status), I'll find greater "soul" fulfillment as a half-black, half-Asian (with a little native-American thrown in for good measure) transgender female. That's okay with you, in your world of everything and anything goes, right Becky?
8. The Torah is immutable, not subject to evolutionary change
Robert Blum ,   New Albany   (07.24.16)
The 'Conservative' "Jews", conveniently, in an obvious, self-serving mission, decree that Jewish law is is open to evolutionary changes.
The fact that the Torah is immutable withstands the 'Conservative's' contradiction, which is actually a blatant lie.
