1. mastermind of the attemted coup
Dan Frank ,   montreal   (07.18.16)
There is no doubt in my mind that the mastermind of the coup is none other than Erdogan himself.
None of the chain of events that took place make any sense, the way it all came down was bound to fail , but why Erdogan ? what better way is there to consolidate his power ? in one sweep he will do away with all the opposition.
2. Once more pipe dreams
Avi L.   (07.18.16)
"The Turkish opposition therefore prefers to topple Erdogan democratically."

Rather than say such inanities it's better to talk about football, even more because such baseless pipe dreams risk to have geopolitical consequences if public opinion ends up believing them.

There won't be any more factual opposition in Turkey little sultan Erdo has just performed his own "night of the long knives", his "cultural revolution", his stalinian purge.

From now on any word uttered against little Erdo will be considered attempt to the state, the chief of the state, against islam and prosecuted.

There won't be anymore opposition, no more than in China.

So let's face reality, let's tell Israeli citizens that Turkey is turning in another Qatar.

Let's help Israelis to understand and be able to evaluate political alternatives and don't swallow passively propaganda pieces thrown to us by particular interests (it's the business, stupid).

Just hope that this hope in a hypothetical turkish opposition hasn't been layed by some "think tank" who lacking any idea has to justify the cash it receives.

Let's not wait for Godot, in the form of some messianic "turkish opposition" who will democratically topple the islamists.
3. Turkey is a looser with Erdogan !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (07.18.16)
He will adventure into Miltary action against neighbouring countries but will loose.

Turkey will be crippled.

4. The real coup is starting now
tiki ,   Belgium   (07.18.16)
And the hypocritical EU is standing by the Sultan while he is purging Turkey from all his enemies.
5. Erdogan is an enemy of the rule of law.
C   (07.18.16)
erdogan is not a reliable ally to the west or to israel. he is an islamist tyrant, supporter of the muslim brotherhood. a leader who violates the rule of law and the most basic human rights, cannot be counted on as a westerrn allly
6. What saved Erdo are the militant islamists not "the people"
Avi L.   (07.19.16)
What saved Erdo are the militant islamists not "the people", it's SOME of the ones who voted for an islamisation of the society.

On CNN you could hear cry of "allah huakbar" from the ones who started the first confrontations with the soldiers.

We don't need sultan Erdo, he is the one who send the Marmara, he is the one who exacted from us the 20 000 000 $$$, he is the one who helps ISIS, he is the one who helps Hamas ... do we need such a kelp?
7. Erdogan why we do not need him
ROBERT KLEIN ,   United States   (07.19.16)
Erdogan abused Israel for 6 years and you still defend him? Get new glasses

Frank ,   Glendale   (07.20.16)
Well reasoned. I was swayed to your position. My initial reaction to your headline was 'nonsense'. It's, however as you point out, indeed a situation of 'the devil you know'.
