1. Core sunjects.
lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (07.23.16)
A big mistake not to make mandatory the basic 3Rs and dare I say it evolution as well.....does Israel wish to have a large minority segment of the population utterly ignorant of the modern world>
2. In the spirit of Isaiah,"a light unto the nations"
Sagi   (07.23.16)
These people, are a stain on the Nation of Israel, I despise them, they are a "torch unto the Nation", a torch which signifies darkness and oblivion. How is it possible in a modern enlightened society an educational system that precludes teaching knowledge is allowed to exist, is actually given backing by the government. Denying knowledge to young people is a crime, denying them the possibility to think freely is a crime, teaching them nonsense is a crime.
3. Sad day for Judaism
Larry ,   Or Yehuda   (07.23.16)
We need to cancel the study of the Bible as well. The only thing is, at least the Zionist Union is not leading the country
4. His own fault
Shalom ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.23.16)
If he and Lieberman has stayed in the government instead of deciding to go into opposition, all this could have been prevented. Their combined numbers (17) would also have provided a more stable majority than the combination of Shas and UTJ (13).
5. no fan of lapid however
ron   (07.23.16)
no fan of lapid wiht his dumb saudi plan which guarantees zilch as saudi can barely keep its own security in check.

however, some of the rabbinic leaders are dead wrong. haredi have been rendered defenseless and lacking basic world skills without basic math and business training and militry experience. rabbis are dead wrong on this. prayer is not sufficient. jews have to learn from history. jews cannot keep producing people who look weak, who submit and make concessioins at the first terror incident. they cannot keep producing the whole haaretz brigade, weaklings of the first order.

so on this lapid was correct. he also has a bit of lieberman's fighters instinct so he can sit at the table but in security he knows nothing, zilch.

israel like the UK and perhaps the USA has to discard the traditional leders who have been proven wrong and very weak and that includes bibi who now sends condolences to abbas on the loss of his brother. this abbas who incites his people to axe and stab jewish babies. bibi did this to curry favour and to influence abbas to come to the table to sign a modified ehud barak deal-old thinking and it would only lead to 10 x the deaths and mayhem.

israel should be choosing from feiglin, bennett, barkat, kedar, lapid. the others have to go -bibi, herzog, yechaimovitch, peretz, ramoin, livni. huldai is a walking disaster just like dan halutz who is actually worse that what wingorad said about him, he is unable to admit a mistake. and he made big ones.

quiet on the northern front means nothing while hezbollah has 120000 rockets, 70,000 hardened troops ready to take over an israeli town and they will because the idf under yaalon sat on its ass about this.melman, peretz, haber, halutz are totally wrong about this of course and are more ignorant than previously thought.

6. Lapid is just plain antisemitic
David ,   New york   (07.24.16)
He was not motivated by any notion of helping Haredim or helping the army
He had one motivation only: destroy the religious
(As was the motivation of his father)
He campaigned on hatred
"Live by the sword, die by the sword"
His legacy is toast
And I'm happy for it
7. Core subjects
Heshy ,   Brooklyn ny   (07.24.16)
What about the million plus secular israeli jewish children who are in public schools and have not much education in Torah or Judaism. Here in America there are billionaire chareidi Jews who never went to much secular studies. In fact the four billionaires bidding to buy the Empire State Building were all chareidim. The largest electronic supplier are chassidim who never even went to a high school level of secular studies. There are millions of college educated Americans without even jobs. Not having a clue about evolution will not prevent you from becoming wealthy. When a Jew learns Talmud his mind is sharpened way more than any other subject. Without Torah there is no Jewish people. Secular young Israelis devoid of Torah and trained in all other fields leave israel in droves. Why would they want to live in a land under constant treat of war or attacks. Many go to Germany or America etc where they feel more secure. Unless one has ideological feelings for israel there is not much reason to raise ones future children in a war zone where Iran is stocking up on nukes and terrorist plot every day to attack innocent people on the streets. Becoming rich has nothing to do with secular studies. One great chassidic rabbi told his followers that they can hire lawyers or office staff to do their English related professional work. Today there are so many public relation firms, financial institutions and Job agencies willing to step in to help businesses, there is no need for much secular subject training.
8. In defense of the 'Settlers'
BUILD BABY BUILD !!!   (07.24.16)
many of whom are 'religious Jews'
they serve two obvious purposes,
1- to reclaim the land of Israel
2- to over populate the Arabs birth rate.
Love these guys for those 2 things alone.
The rest is up to the Israeli voters..
9. putin and bibi
roni   (07.24.16)
puitn is playing bibi like the dunce he is , so fearful, begging putin-please don't send arms to hezbollah. meanwhile bibi sells putin top spy drones, and gives him buildings in jerusalme. bibi acts like herzog and peres, a fearfull ignormaus only held back by his father's disapproval of his munich policies.

israel has to stand its ground and knock out arms to hezbollah period one way or another. then it can tell putin we ar esurprised to hear about this.

bibi's rule is coming to an end. and israelis jews should wake up and vote for someone strong, not lapid who is more like oolmert. feiglin, bennett, barkat are all worthy choices. bibi only got in beacuse olmert, peres, barak, were disasters. and herzog is an embarassment to any self respecting jew-an absolute embarassment.
10. Yes, it all goes back to the coalition agreements.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (07.24.16)
For this, Netanyahu is to blame. No one has yet explained to me the urgency of bringing the Haredi parties into the coalition. They were absent in the last, but for some reason, Netanyahu decided to bring them in *first*, accepting their terms to both undo the reforms and increase transfer payments. Why?! Once those terms were in place, that precluded more moderate groups like Yesh Atid from joining as they could not be party to the roll-back of those modest reforms.
11. non-core haredi schools are NGOs
richard sherwin ,   herzliyah   (07.25.16)
treat haredi schools NOT teaching core subjects as NGOs --no government funding at all, for schools OR the families that attend them; and required to list foreign support. they do teach avoiding IDF and national service. so no loss to nation, if taxpayers dont pay for their resulting poverty, ignorance, and joblessness. we support willingly those who demonstrate theyre trying to be self sufficient, not those showing theyre avoiding learning/teaching what's needed to support themselves, their client students, and their families. counting on fingers and toes is not the same thing as maths, or science.
