ever since our exile imposed upon us by cruel tyrants the nations have been
plotting against us.
yet today, our homeland has been liberated and our people have the means
of self defence.
as a young man, through sheer brilliance, persuasion and perseverance,
shimon peres insured that the young jewish state would survive in the midst
of enemies bent on her destruction.
in later life, as a diplomat and as president of the state of israel, shimon
peres represented israel with dignity and courage even in the face of
humiliation and adversity.
may the memory of shimon peres, giant among giants, be a blessing
