2. Egyptian Jews had a thriving community until Nasser went mad
Jake   (03.29.17)
My mother was born in Cairo. Her father was taken prisoner in 1967 when Israel humiliated Egypt on the battlefield. All Jewish men aged 16 to 60 were incarcerated. For 3 weeks no one knew what had happened to them. Finally family was allowed to visit. They shared cell blocs with the Muslim Brotherhood and sat for 3 years. After being released most of the men took their families and left everything behind. They fled through France. My grandfather had a thriving business in Cairo and was forced to abandon it. For some reason the story of the Egyptian Jewish community is mostly unknown.
3. I truly wish they never left

Egyptian Jews were some of the most patriotic in the country. I meet Egyptian jews here in America and they speak very fondly about the memories the food, movies, culture, music and the cities. I truly hope that they come back home.
