1. Rules don't apply--when it comes to Israel
Ed ,   Atlanta, USA   (04.26.17)
Imagine a foreign leader visiting a country and insisting on meeting with members of fringe opposition political parties. It would rightly be judged to be an unacceptable meddling in the affairs of another country and contrary to acceptable diplomacy. As usual, the normal rules of diplomacy don't apply when it comes to Israel.

But there is another side here. There aren't many countries where foreign leaders would dare meet with leaders of opposition parties because they would fear that the opposition leaders would be punished. So, the meeting had the effect of undermining B'tselem and Breaking the Silence by showing the vibrancy of Israel's democracy--just the opposite of what these groups want to claim. Even so, Netanyahu made the right decision.
