2. TO MINISTER YISRAEL KATZ
Why, Dear Mr. Katz can't you speak in a clear and exact way? Why do you speak about an American "recognition" of "Israeli Sovereignty" over the Golan Heights? Israel didn't "capture" the Golan Heights during the Six-Day war. A more appropriate and exact term would be "recovered" the Golan Heights. Indeed, the Golan Heights were NEVER part of Syrian real estate. Do you find it normal that I should give a lesson of Israel's recent history to a Minister of the state of Israel? The Golan Heights were an integral part of the Mandate for Palestine, the territory decided by the League of Nations (1922) to become the future independent Jewish state. The fact that the British Mandatory ceded in 1923, in a surreptitious, capricious and arbitrary way the Golan Heights to the French Mandate of Syria, as thanks for accepting moving Mosul and its oil fields from Syria to Iraq under British Mandate, breaching Article 5 of the Palestine Mandate, doesn't make the Golan Heights part of Syrian Territory. The Golan Heights were, are, and will remain part of the Mandate for Palestine, recognized in International Law and reaffirmed by Article 80 of the United Nations' Charter.
