My own feeling is that recognition is a two way street. The Palestinians refuse to recognize the right the the Jewish State of Israel to live in peace or for the Jews to live in peace in Israel. Fine. Then Israel and the civilized world have no obligation or need to recognize the existence of the Palestinians or their right to an independent state. When someone tells you they want to kill you, you do not then hand them a gun, turn your back and walk away. The Palestinians say that no matter what Israel does and no matter how much territory Israel turns over, they will never, under any circumstances, make peace with Israel or end their efforts to destroy Israel and slaughter every Jew in Israel. Why would anyone ever think Israel should negotiate with these people. Negotiation presupposes recognition of the other side and the legitimacy of the other sides complaints, which then the two sides try to resolve through a peaceful and rational process. The Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel, refuse to recognize that Israel has a legitimate right to exist and refuse to engage in a peaceful and rational process. Why would anyone think Israel should ever give one square inch of land to these barbarians? If there is one thing everyone should agree on it should be this: You can't appease suicide bombers.
