It's unfortunate if Consulate personnel were tasked with preparing for the president's visit. They do not report to the US Embassy in Tel Aviv or the ambassador. Rather, they report to the State Department and the many who have long held Israel in contempt.

Another issue to consider is that Trump's foreign policy team is rather shallow. And beyond the Obama holdovers who still wield influence as the "expert hands", some of the senior Trump team hold rather old ideas about the local conflict being "central" in stabilizing the Middle East, or that Israel "complicates" working with Arab states.
