What Abbas is trying to do is somehow get Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank to speak with one voice
But at the moment Hamas will have none of it
Because there is no way you could have any meaningful and lasting peace or Palestinian statehood for all Palestinians with Israel negotiating separately with either the PA or Hamas
So you end up with a bizarre 'half baked' situation where say the Palestinians in the West Bank are at peace with Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza are still at war!
Half War Half Peace is NO PEACE better the status quo. And what sort of Statehood is THAT?
And to top it all you also end up with Hamas and the PA busy competing and undermining each other for supremacy
