The rabbanut is ULTRA-Orthodox. They don't even recognize a lot of Orthodox conversions from the U.S. My wife and I renounced the Christianity we'd been born into, gave up all our family and friends and converted Orthodox decades ago. Decades after I'd made aliyah, and prayed in an Orthodox beit k'nesset for over a decade, the Rabbanut lied (!!!) about me in court documents unilaterally "unrecognizing" me, my wife and family. We're still fighting to expose the Rabbanut's lies in the courts system and eliminate the libel against us. Aliyah was a contract between Israel, Jews and us. We gave up everything to make aliyah and then Israel reneged. That's the sorry state of rabbinicism today.

It's time to recognize that the majority of Jews live in the United States and not Israel...and before you doubt that, the majority of 'so called Jews in Israel are secular and never go to services. They are jews only because they live in Israel and never bothered to covert to some other religion. BUT the majority of Jews in the US are associated with a temple of some sort, pay dues and while they may not go to services as much as the tiny minority of orthodox Jews wish to, even the most liberal reform Jews send their kid's to religious school and are more actively involved with their local Jewish community, than the majority of secular Israel Jews.

So it's not some tiny fanatical minority of out of touch orthodox semi-jews in Israel (who seem in ethics and moral issues have more in common with Islamic mullahs) who should define what being
Jewish means.
It's time world embrace Conservative and Reform Judiasum as the true face of Jews and delegate the extreme orthodox as some sort of quant side show of silly religion in the same category the world looks at the horse and buggy riding Amish.
