If they do not realise what the rules are then they are not only stupid but criminally so.
Of course they realise that what they were doing was wrong and it sums up the utter valueless concept of a Yeshiva /Haredi upbringing as it obviously does not give them a moral compass to live by.
There actions have created further if any were needed to enhance the antisemitics out there with even more ammunition.
We Jews are part of the human race with all its frailities but what is really galling is that it was the so called religiosity of those who have caused this new outbreak of nasty behaviour when they so often point the finger of accusation that secular Jews are ruining the traditions and concepts of what it means to be Jewish...well that has now been firmly put to bed.

It is not true that "kol Israel haverim." Those who are abusers of the law, thieves and criminals should have no friends among their own people. Nobody straight and honest should allow him/her-self to hide and support a criminal who destroys the image of the entire community. To be "chosen" means, first of all, to be honest, that's the primary mitzvah.

In other time I would ask why he is referred to the criminal suspect as Rabbi Zalmen Sorotzkin and not as a criminal suspect Zalmen Sorotzkin. However, after the wave of criminal convictions of so many with the title Rabbi in the past decade, it is a moot point. Hopefully they will post bail and skip to Israel and save us the tax dollars to house them in “club fed”. Israel is a magnet for human garbage with their religious conviction and no ethical backbone; they live off of the land there, contributing nothing and getting better benefits than released IDF service men and women.

If you don't make money but you get assistance from parents, is it criminal to receive public assistance, technically so but I don't consider that "thievery"
There is a fair amount of gray here, but if the government wants to make an example of you, they will get you.

Their Jewish attorneys will make sure they go before a Jewish judge. The attorneys will say they were the children of victims of the holocaust (TM). The judge will say "Well that explains the actions of these poor people." He'll let them off with community service at their synagogue. It's what happens every time these so-called religious Jews get caught.

Things just happen, don't try to interpret as divine.
