It's a good thing that "gaze over the border" business was canceled by Providence. For a man who campaigned to be the alternative to the Washington status quo it would have been a step back from his negotiations offer the previous day. The President is a successful American's American: a "go get 'em" "done got "em" kind of guy who wants immediate results.
But now it's a waiting game. The offer has been made. Every day, week, or even month of silent, non-belligerence from Un will be a good sign. Un will be testing the President's sincerity. Whenever the day of the next joint military exercise between the US and South Korea approaches would perhaps be a good time for the President to cancel the exercise and reiterate his offer. At any rate, with the passage of time Un will sit down to offered negotiations. Un is no fool. This is what he wants for his country: to be treated like a respected nation.
