They can stand and study and pray.
Just think if they were like the rest of us and had to work for a living they might have to stand for hours at a machine, factory line or as a waiter.

As for the change in clothes - be glad that some other uniform is being
given for wearing - instead of having nothing at all (to say it mildly).

you receive no punishment, no harassment, no abuse, you received a jail sentence. You have caused strife against the Israeli people who fight to keep Israel safe as possible. You are lucky they didn't give you a life sentence.
The ultra orthodox deny the existence of Israel, and yet you reap all the benefits.
If you want get out of prison, join the IDF and get a taste of reality. GOD did command the people to create an army. Moses, Joshua, King David who were devoted to GOD did as GOD commanded.
It was only the High Priests/ and the Prophets of Israel that were exempt from military service.

The chareidim of the Old Yishuv were actually in the country decades before the Zionists arrived.
The managed to deal with the Arabs in their own way, and were able to sit and learn. The were poor and holy.
Then came the Zionists who antagonized the Arabs and now the entire world, and created the need for a strong, anti-religious and anti-Jewish army (I've been in it, and I know).
And now the Zionists expect those descendants of the Old Yishuv to serve in their ungodly army and are so indignant when they refuse.
