4. The Likud was founded on high principles
But these principles have been sickenly eroded under Netanyahu's leadership. Real Likudniks - of which I was one - abhor what the party has become in the years since Sharon, who at least put his country before himself. This can't be said of Netanyahu.
Since 1997, a new "Likudnik" has been "voted" (as we know, by a corrupt system in which vast sums of money pass hands in order to promote candidacy on the list). It's sickening to see small-minded, petty, and in some cases criminal elements entering the Knesset and behaving like cavemen (and women). The party has lost all its self respect, and when that happens, respect from others dwindles.
If Likudniks wish to see their party rise to more than a mere 25 percent of national support (under Begin it was almost double that), then they need to reform the party an elect honorable representatives.
There is no doubt that corruption of sorts is widespread, but there are limits. Today's Likud has exceeded those limits. For the honor of the party and the country, Likud needs a clean sweep. Until then, I'm voting elsewhere.
